From Lacanau, you head Moutchic by the cycle track. Founded in 1099, the church of Carcans was the seat of a priory until the 13th century. At that time, it was erected as a parish. Carcans was a relay for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela coming from Saintonge. As a souvenir, the church preserves a magnificent statue of Saint Jacques in pilgrim costume dating from the 17th century and classified as a Historical Monument. The present church was built in 1870 in the neo-gothic style; the altar, from the same period, is made of polychrome marble. The choir organ, made in Germany, was installed in 1971 during the restoration of the church.

This is the largest natural freshwater lake in France with 6000 ha. The lake of Carcans-Hourtin offers a 2 km long developed beach in Maubuisson, a protected eastern shore and small beaches hidden in the conches in the west.
