In a natural setting sculpted by Aveyron, Penne’s unique village-style architecture, built into the rock, is in harmony with its surroundings: a limestone cliff backdrop. Castle and village combined: Around 560, the castle of Penne was built at the behest of Frédégonde, wife of Chilpéric I, king of Neustria, a woman who would stop at nothing to hold power. Thus she made Chilperic's first wife and his two sons disappear. Her rivalry with Brunehaut, Queen of Austrasia, is famous. War ravaged their states and Brunehaut died on the orders of Clotaire II, son of Frédégonde. Modernised and enlarged, the castle of Penne sheltered Cathars in the 13th century. One hundred years later, the English occupied it for more than thirty years. Finally, the Protestants dismantled it in 1586... Under Henry IV, the stones were used to rebuild the village, which now merges with the castle. Both enrich a site that has become quite unusual.

Puycelsi is like an outpost of the Quercy Causses. The crossing of the village reveals architectural treasures. The route is dedicated to the cause of plants, from the Conservatory orchard to the ancestral vaults of the Grésigne oak groves. The great forest of Grésigne: Spread over 3526 hectares, the Grésigne forest remains today the most important forest of the Tarn and the largest oak forest (60% sessile oak, 15% pedunculate oak) of the south of France... Because no one has failed to exploit it extensively over the centuries. Its use in regulated felling dates back to François I, who authorised the felling of 150 trees per year to transform them into staves for barrels. In the 17th century, Jean-Baptiste Colbert had it used for the framework of Louis XIV's ships. The glassmakers threw it ashore to fuel their furnaces and make a fine, bluish glass whose formula was lost. The charcoal burners cut the wood to produce charcoal, and the local residents used it for heating.

Mill built in 1781 by Louis Martin de Bellerive. Private property but the mill is visible from the road. The Bellerive Mill was protected as a Historic Monument in 1989. It is built of brick with stone bases. It consists of three levels and housed eight horizontal (flat) turbines. • Four for grinding flour; • One to operate the bluterie mechanism (which acted like a sieve, to separate the flour from the bran which envelops the grains); • Two to transmit power to a neighboring sawmill; • One for pumping water. The mill roadway was damaged by a flood during the winter of 1783. This caused difficulties later. Then after another break in the roadway in 1911, the mill's activity ceased definitively.

The bastide of Réalville (Regalis villa = the royal city) was founded in 1310 by King Philippe IV le Bel and populated by the inhabitants of Almont, a village located on the hillsides and abandoned on this occasion. The particularity of this foundation is to be installed in contact with a very old Benedictine priory, Cayrac, and near a Cistercian abbey, Saint-Marcel. Nothing suggests the turbulent history of Réalville, a 14th century bastide with an arcaded square, lined with old brick or half-timbered houses. After the troubles of the Hundred Years War (siege of Réalville), the Wars of Religion lead to the destruction of the Abbey of Lagarde-Dieu in Mirabel and the looting of Cayrac and Réalville. As prosperity returned in the 17th and 18th centuries, dovecotes were erected in the countryside, mills along the Aveyron or the Lère and beautiful houses in the villages. A priory-cure of the abbey in 1580, the chapel was a place of pilgrimage where people came from neighbouring departments to make their vows. Rebuilt in the 17th century, the chapel is remarkable for its octagonal stone bell tower and its two 16th century floors. This tower is a rare example of a stone bell tower from the Toulouse school. It is protected as a Historic Monument. During the summer of 2002 the 19th century wooden statue that occupied the heart of the church of Notre Dames des Misères was stolen. It consisted of three parts carved in oak, the Virgin, the pilgrims and the base. Of this sculpture only the base remained. The statue was replaced by a creation by Jean-François LEROY, a sculptor from Mirabel, inspired by the stolen work, where the Virgin stretches out her hands to welcome and gather the unfortunate people who implore her, a work in bronze 1m70 high and weighing 340kg.

At 54 meters it is the highest in the department behind the modern bell tower of Saint-Orens in Montauban. In the 12th century and probably since the 10th century, the first Notre-Dame church was the priory of Moissac Abbey. This first church was destroyed during the Hundred Years' War (1337-1454), and rebuilt and enlarged from the 15th century. The top of the brick bell tower dates from this period. It is built on a massive, older, white stone base (perhaps from the original construction of the priory). This bell tower is part of the first classification campaign as a Historic Monument in 1840. The church was again partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion. The nave was rebuilt, larger, as was the rest of the church, rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style in the 19th century. The rose window is inspired by that of the Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue and presents the 7 sacraments;

The Arles Tower stands opposite the church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption. Built in the 13th century, it was notably the property of the Duke of Sully. A precious witness to the architecture of the Middle Ages in Quercy, this tower, whose two facades have twin bays, houses vestiges of medieval wall painting. This red brick tower called Tour d'Arles was built during the expansion of the medieval town (probably built by the Lalo, a wealthy merchant family). The building, which belongs to the Caussade town hall, has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1989.

The Thouron Fountain, formerly known as the "Fontaine Vermeille Installed on the edge of the old moat is the Thouron fountain, an emblematic fountain in Caussade. In the basement, two vaulted rooms housing pools were made accessible by a double-flight staircase. In the middle of the 19th century, the stairs were buried and the monumental fountain built above one of the pools. Thanks to a pumping system, the Caussadais collected the water which then came out of two cast iron lion heads. The stairs were brought to light again during a restoration and enhancement campaign for the building that began in 2012. Its function at this time still remains undetermined: was it used to supply water to part of the city's ditches? Or to feed the gardens installed outside the ramparts? Today, the fountain consists of a limestone pedestal in neoclassical style. The pedestal is decorated with garlands of oak and laurel leaves which highlight the coat of arms of the town of Caussade: a tower (it refers to the ancient castle of Caussade) and a stocking (legend of the fairy). The market was built in 2019, in the heart of the historic town, just behind the church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption, and is a circular market for fruit and vegetable producers during the weekly Monday market in Caussade. The motifs surrounding this hall refer to straw weaving and hat-making activities.

13th century house, also called House of the Tavern. Big bourgeois house that belonged to a rich cloth merchant. The Tavern house is one of the most emblematic medieval houses in Caussade. It was built in the 13th century, at the time of the expansion of the medieval town. Formerly called “Widows’ House”, it is today called “Tavern Tower”. The tower has three floors, formerly devoted to social and domestic life, as well as a ground floor whose arcades indicate the presence of commercial spaces. In the 15th century, the tower belonged to a rich family of draper merchants, the Missolières. The iron rings on the facade were used to hang draperies on holidays or to protect from the sun. This house was chosen by Viollet-le-Duc to serve as a typical 13th century dwelling in the south-west of France: tower houses or dwellings of noble families or the upper middle class. Viollet-le-Duc represents it in his reasoned dictionary of French architecture but took the liberty of restoring the twin bays of the first floor (replaced in the 15th century by cross windows) and added a soleiho (a covered gallery installed under the roof and used for drying fruits and vegetables).

The Recollet Fathers were called by the town in 1681, by order of the king and the bishop of Cahors. During the Wars of Religion, Caussade became a Protestant stronghold, in the orbit of Montauban, the Protestant capital of the South-West. After the Catholic reconquest of royal power, the latter had the religious order of the Récollets installed in Caussade in 1681. There they are responsible for educating poor boys and spreading the Christian faith. The building is then made up of three buildings organized in a U around a central courtyard (housing a garden) and a cloister. The municipality of Caussade purchased the building in the 18th century after the French Revolution to convert it into a public building. The chapel served as a parish church in 1791 and again in 1879-1882 during the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame church. It now houses the cinema theater. The rest of the buildings were used for the justice of the peace and as a primary school until 1970. Since then, these places have housed the Tourist Office, associations, meeting and exhibition spaces. The conference room on the first floor pays tribute to Pierre du Calvet, a native of Caussade.
