The Tarn flows quietly between its clay banks. Brick colours the architecture of Rabastens. In the hills, the ploughing perpetuates the range of colours. Presence of bricks : In the Tarn plain, clay is everywhere. It is difficult to get out of it on wet days! But the clay smiles when it becomes a brick, when it becomes unique. Not by the quantity, it abounds! But by the fruit of the metamorphosis which allows it to be dressed in subtle colours for the best of regional architecture. Pink Toulouse but red Rabastens, Gaillac and Albi. Finally, red... Red spangled with a thousand white particles, faded red, dark red, loyal red... As an accomplice of the architectural imagination, brick knows how to be simple for the suburbs, refined for the private mansions of Castres and Albi. Nowadays, it has other attractions: healthiness and thermal capacity in particular.

The Church of Saint-Martin de Mours, like a beacon, dominates the landscape and guides the walker, who will discover superb panoramic views of the Tarn valley and the Rabastin area along the way. In the Middle Ages, the church of Saint-Martin de Mours (known as d'amour) stood on a feudal mound. Attested as early as 1229, it was completely rebuilt in the 19th century and its history is closely linked to that of the people of this commune, like these two very pretty statues bought by the inhabitants after the First World War. One of the Virgin Mary, bought by the young women, and one of St Martin,bought by the young men. Today, a conservation association keeps the church in good repair, as is the case with many of these rural buildings that enrich the walker's route. Along the way, you'll discover a small winegrowing heritage (vineyard sheds, dovecotes).

Plains and hillsides, vineyards, umbrella pines and cypresses transform the medieval bastide town of Lisle-sur-Tarn into a city of Occitan Tuscany in the summer light and heat. Discover the history of this part of the Tarn by exploring its landscape. Lisle-sur-Tarn is the only bastide town on the plains of the Tarn with its own port. Trade (cereals, woad, wine, etc.) and cultural exchanges made possible by river traffic enriched the town until the 18th century. The arrival of the railway signalled the end of the gabares' reign. Lisle is also one of the most typical bastides in the south-west of France, with its chequered ilos, ‘les moulons’, its central square, ‘la carra’ with its covered walkways and the ‘pountets’, a covered passageway at high level allowing streets to be watched and safe passage from one ilot to another. Like all the towns and villages in the Tarn valley, the houses here are built in brick (ochre for unbaked brick, red for fired brick).

Soft undulations of the hills and the fields. The play of light, the shades of colour, the diversity of the patterns and textures... Always changing perspectives... Around the Tescou plain, the countryside also has an artist's soul. The "high yellow note": The high yellow note, so characteristic of Arles' pictorial production, haunted Vincent van Gogh in the heart of the summer of 1888. The different versions he painted of the Sunflowers attest to his fascination with colour. Had he come to set up his easel on the hills of Tescou, Vincent would have impregnated the canvas with the same flagrancy... Summer indeed sets fire to the crops of the Salvagnacois. Ephemeral synonyms, tens of millions of sunflowers illuminate the landscape like so many suns. Here, the high yellow note colours the food more. All in opposition, it is the intense portrait of a deeply agricultural and peaceful country, "round and prosperous" as Georges Brassens sang. An appointment for artists who don't know themselves?

A former railway line transformed into a bike and pedestrian path in 2008, you can enjoy a pleasant 8kms route between Villemur-sur-Tarn and La Magdelaine-sur-Tarn. Open to all except for riders and motorised vehicles. The Villemur-sur-Tarn route is a cycling and pedestrian path extending across Tarn. Nestled in the valley, it offers an enjoyable family-friendly hike to explore the countryside, and the region’s flora and fauna. For the more seasoned sports enthusiasts, the 8kms laid out over a former railway track provide the opportunity to practise cycling, roller blading or running in a scenic setting between Villemur-sur-Tarn and La Magdelaine-sur-Tarn. Open to all except for riders and motorised vehicles.

From the brick-red heart of the old bastide, the path leads up to the wooded hillsides. Along the way, the carefully tended landscapes of the Gaillacois vineyards reveal a fine palette of light and colour. The bastide queen: At the heart of the city, the square is the crossroads of all meetings. The streets that converge on it are often also decorated with arcades, covered passages under the houses in which shops open and markets are held. The square is at the centre of a geometric spindle-shaped, checkerboard or concentric building. The whole is still often protected by a wall. This is the bastide... In Albigensia, the bastide is king. Of a fascinating and abundant past. It still vibrates, perhaps for ever, to the Cathar, English and Huguenot rhythms. Its walls are polished, its brick has a patina and its wood is cracked. You look for it in Cahuzac-sur-Vère. But you enter it through the Hirissou gate in Puycelci, the Horloge gate in Cordes-sur-Ciel in Cordes-sur-Ciel, the Garrics in Castelnau-de-Montmiral, the Porte Neuve in Bruniquel. One calms down at the Larroque fountain. You weigh your grain at the Place des Mesures in Penne. And you can dance in Lisle-sur-Tarn, in one of the largest bastide squares in the South-West. White grape varieties not found elsewhere: The Gaillac winegrower has always taken care to select the grape varieties best suited to the terrain and exposure. Typical, specific and high in character, two Gaillac grape varieties, Mauzac and Len de l'el (Loin de l'oeil), stand out for their rarity. Mauzac excels in the construction of white wines. Its aromas are reminiscent of apples and pears for soft wines with low acidity. There are some real "marvels" in pure Mauzac. With a particular aptitude for making sparkling wines, this grape variety lives only in Gaillac and Limoux. Len de l'el ? Its bunch has a very long stalk which keeps the grape "away from the eye" (in viticulture, the eye is the bud). Its origin is remote. It exists only in Gaillac and produces a wine with a very fine floral or citrus aroma. Combined with Mauzac, it is fresh and supple.

UNESCO World Heritage listed (in the context of the Santiago Pilgrim Ways). The first church built in the region in the south Gothic style; it retains a magnificent portal decorated with eight Romanesque capitals and remarkable wall paintings carried out between the 13th and 16th centuries. Back in the 16th century, when the French Religious Wars were in full effect, the church of Notre-Dame du Bourg at Rabastens was looted by the Protestants, who then turned the building into a military barracks. When the Catholics finally reclaimed their church, they covered it in lime to ‘purify’ it. It was only when some restoration work was being done in the 19th century that paintings – hidden by the lime for centuries – were rediscovered, preserved in fabulous condition. The interior of Notre-Dame du Bourg is seriously flamboyant with red as the dominant colour, accented with blue and gold. Any visitor will be stunned by the beauty of the decoration.

A cool break on the banks of the Tarn under the ramparts of Rabastens. No parking (and closed road) near the beach. Park in the village and walk down to the beach via the staircase at the end of rue du Fossé Moulinal or via "Promenade de Constance" (preferable with a wheelchair or pushchair).

A church that is a must see! A first church existed as early as the end of the 12th century, probably consolidated and extended by Raymond VII in the mid-13th century, before being partly destroyed by the wars of the 16th century and rebuilt around the original watchtower. The Toulouse brick façade is decorated with sixty-two bolt holes. The watchtower, which retains traces of arquebus fire on its sides, has three-metre-thick walls. The bell tower has a "fenestrel" appearance ("with small openings", in architecture). It is octagonal and has three multi-pored storeys. It is dis-eight metres high, giving a total height of forty-three metres for the tower plus bell tower. This architecture is reminiscent of that of the Basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse, which was built throughout the 12th century, so much so that some people have even described the church in Buzet as a "little Saint-Sernin". The whole building is massive in appearance, but in Gothic style. There is a whole history trail on site to help you discover the history of Buzet, including its church. The Museum Of The Art Of Chocolate is an exhibition space, cultural area and theatre dedicated to chocolate – and there’s even a boutique that we call a ‘chocolatheque’! There’s a permanent exhibition of sculptures and works of art made entirely of chocolate waiting just for you, as well as temporary themed exhibitions and a tasting guide to the ‘grands crus’ of chocolate. The museum also offers tailor-made ‘Discovering Chocolate’ workshops based on themes including wine and chocolate, diet chocolate, tastes and aromas, and making chocolates…

This English-style floral park stretches over almost nine acres and is classified as an ‘outstanding garden’. Here you’ll find all kinds of gardens with more than 2500 different varieties of plant from all five continents, an exotic greenhouse, banana trees, a lotus temple and a mini-farm (complete with baby deer, mini-goats, angoras and highland cows.) There’s also a shaded picnic area and a garden centre where you can buy plants.

Only a capital and two sculpted heads, remnants of the original church, were salvaged and reused in the current church, built in 1905 in a neo-Gothic brick style.

This oak forest just outside of Toulouse is ideal to try outdoor sports and to discover the riches of what the forest environment has to offer. Located at the extreme North of Haute-Garonne, the Buzet forest spreads out over the first two alluvial terraces of the Tarn River. This oak forest is made up of what remains from what in the Middle Ages used to go all the way to the hilltop village of Montjoire. This oak forest just outside of Toulouse is ideal to try outdoor sports and to discover the riches of what the forest environment has to offer. Various itineraries allow you to hike in this forest or go through it riding horses or mountain bikes.

The church was built in the middle of the 19th century around 1930, on the remains of the first church which was in very poor condition. All that remains of the first church is the wall adjacent to the presbytery supporting the bell tower.

The Sivens forest is an extension of its "big sister" the Grésigne forest. Until the beginning of the 20th century, a whole working population lived from and in the forest. Pitsawyers, ruscassiers extracting the precious tannins from the oak bark for leather work, charcoal makers producing charcoal... Mixing with the oak forests, coniferous trees have been planted more recently to supply the props for the Carmaux mines. At the gateway to the Gaillac vineyards, the Maison départementale de la forêt is dedicated to raising awareness of the environment and leisure activities, and offers a full range of facilities for discovering the forest: events, themed exhibitions, interpretation and hiking trails. In autumn, don't miss the mycological outings in these woods, which are rich in mushrooms. Listen up! It won't be long before you notice the presence of the hosts of these places. At the beginning of autumn, you will hear the bellowing of the stag in the distance. And there... it's a roe deer! Here it's the wild boars that have stripped the ground bare by digging it up. Ah, a dead tree! You may be lucky enough to discover a giant! Well, almost, it is the Lucane Cerf-volant, 8 cm long, it is the largest beetle in Europe.

This place full of history, mixing baroque and art nouveau, was born in 1843. More than a century of existence for this institution in the heart of the pink city. Chef Yann Ghazal and his team propose you a bistronomic cuisine with the accents of the Southwest. The history of Bibent begins in the nineteenth century. Renovated for the first time from 1881 to 1882, its decoration is characteristic of the Belle Epoque. The building is listed as a historic monument in 1975 for its interior decoration. Once through the door of the brewery, you will discover stucco, friezes and mirrors of Napoleon III style, which have been renovated under the control of the Buildings of France. Contemporary furniture in red and green tones has been installed and can accommodate about 100 people. In the room below, the Salon Nougaro, you will find a typical Toulouse cellar of the pink city. A pink brick vault where about thirty people will be able to settle. This room can also be privatized for personal or business events.
