A fast, peachy loop, a stone's throw from the city, for a cardio workout after work or an introductory ride. Even if my gradients can make you smile for an experienced mountain biker, taken at his own pace, they can hurt a lot... This loop is a more accessible variant of the circuit: "le grand tour par les collines". The start is the same and the two circuits split shortly before the "métairie haute" where this track leads directly to Canguilan without having to loop around in Briatexte. We therefore enjoy the small valley of the stream of Assou at a lower cost, always following the markings. We finish calmly, after joining the D84, by descending the ridges overlooking the Notre-Dame stream. Under the Canguilan antenna, the route this time proposes to remain always to the west of the D84. The return to Graulhet is downhill.

At the gateway to Graulhet, discover the splendour of the panoramic views over the Graulhet countryside, its valleys and its colours. You'll also discover the charms of the wildlife living close to Lac de Nabeillou and in the forest adjacent to it: squirrels, nightingales, dragonflies, butterflies, water turtles and more will be the guides on your walk. Lac de Nabeillou, in its green setting, is a marvellous new leisure area. Other activities can be combined with hiking: bi-cross track, cyclocross, mountain biking, fishing, skate park, hiking, picnic area, fitness trail. Take the Gaudentius trail and marvel at the exceptional views over the valleys. Pass along the old Lavaur road that linked Lautrec to Ambres. Go as far as the prône limestone site, which dates back to a very distant past. In 1270, Amaury, Viscount of Lautrec and Baron of Ambres, decided to found a fortified town. He chose an uncultivated area on the banks of the Dadou, which he named Saint-Gauzens in memory of Sanctus-Gaudentius, a young shepherd from 400 AD who was beheaded by the Visigoth king. The new bastide was so famous that Philippe le Bel, King of France, sent the seneschal of Carcassonne to found another bastide nearby to reassert his power. Just 5km north-east of St Gauzens, the church of Saint-Pierre de Monestiés boasts a superb Romanesque portal with 12th-century foliage capitals.

The trail starts in the centre of Briatexte and continues through undulating countryside offering lovely views of the Dadou valley and, in fine weather, the Pyrenees and Montagne Noire. The ‘place à couverts’ is typical of the bastides, new towns created in Occitania and Aquitaine in the 13th century to develop trade. A little further on, you'll see the listed gateway to the old castle, before reaching the dovecote mill on the Dadou, where the piers of the old railway viaduct still stand. On leaving the village, the chimney of an old brickworks catches the eye and bears witness to a local craft industry that has now been abandoned. Along the way, there are lovely views of the churches of Saint-Martin and Cabanès. The ‘Raccourci des vignes’, with its ‘open countryside’ route, will delight enthusiasts in search of tranquillity (starts at point 5 and finishes at point 7).

Take a stroll through the town to appreciate the heritage of this city, whose wealth was built on leatherwork. On your way, you'll see medieval houses and leather-working mills overlooking the Dadou, all set in the peace and quiet of the riverbanks and narrow streets. The first village was built on a rocky islet between the Dadou, the Verdaussou stream and the marshes of the Jourdain, and the town was given the name ‘Granhola’, which translates from frog in Occitan, as these little creatures swarmed here. From the parchment of 961 mentioning its fortified castle to the 21st century developments at Pré Millet, Graulhet offers you over 1,000 years of history. From the Middle Ages onwards, the town's wealth has been built around the leather industry. The Toulouse-Lautrec museum is located in one of the most beautiful corners of Albi: the Berbie Palace. The Palace is one of the Episcopal City’s major sites with World Heritage status. The museum is recognised internationally for the works of this artist from Albi. TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, A UNIQUE COLLECTION IN THE WORLD The world’s most important public collection of the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, including 31 posters by the lithograph painter, is to be found in Albi. There are also no fewer than 219 paintings, 563 drawings and 183 lithographs displayed in the museum. Early works, major portraits, paintings of brothels, prints from the world of entertainment, advertisements and later works are presented there, giving this museum an exceptional collection. Each stage of the production is represented, highlighting his gift for observation, his talent as a draughtsman and his quality for capturing significant detail. The route around the museum is enriched with information panels. To visit the museum is to meet the man, this native of Albi, of whom this city is so proud. Shopping in a listed site in the heart of the historic center! The Albi market is held in a unique setting, a Baltard-style pavilion built in 1903. More than a century old, it's a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike. Twenty or so stores open their doors, offering authentic, quality products. Market gardeners, greengrocers, caterers, fishmongers, pork butchers, cheese-makers, pastry-makers... It's even possible to eat under the covered market, with a choice of catering outlets.

A trip on the River Tarn aboard a traditional flat-bottomed boat. Various departures from the banks of the Tarn between 11:00am and 6:00pm. ‘L’Hirondelle’ and ‘Les Copains d’abord’, scows with a traditional flat bottom, cruise along the Tarn and offer passengers unexpected panoramas of Albi’s heritage and a tranquil atmosphere on the Tarn. Located in the heart of the "Pays de Cocagne", Puylaurens is a wonderful look-out spot, overlooking the plain of Lauragais, the Montagne Noire and - when the weather allows it - the Pyrenees. This old protestant town is also the birthplace of the song-writer who first called the French Republic by the name of Marianne. The fortified town of Puylaurens became in the 16th century a high spot of the Pays de Cocagne -or land of prosperity- thanks to the cultivation of pastel, the plant from which was extracted the blue pigments used to dye textiles. The plant was sold all around Europe under the form of dried balls called "cocanhas" in occitan, which explains the name "Pays de Cocagne". The trade of pastel incidentally enabled the circulation of ideas and this is how Protestantism traveled from Northern Europe to Occitanie when the kingdom of France had always been catholic. In the year 1660, the Protestant Academy located in the city of Montauban was transferred, by order of the king, to Puylaurens. It remained there during 25 years and was shut down as the Edict of Nantes, that granted religious tolerance, was annulled. In 1792, during the French Revolution, an inhabitant of Puylaurens, the cobbler and minstrel named Guillaume Lavabre wrote a song called "La Garisou de Marianno" (the Healing of Marianne), a popular satyr in which he gave the name Marianne to the French Republic. The text of this song is the oldest written token of the attribution of that name to the Republic, the town of Puylaurens can thus be considered as the birthplace of Marianne, allegory of the French Republic. Places of interest: - Look-out over the plain of Lauragais and the mountains - The church Notre Dame du Lac and its picturesque covered market, the church was destroyed by the Protestants in 1621 and again by a fire in 1896. - The protestant temple (not open to visitors) - The half-timbered-houses from the 17th and 18th centuries - The fortification walls - The castle "Cap de Castel", former medieval construction that served as a prison during the Albigensian Crusade and is now part of a hotel-restaurant - The weekly market, the local producers market in summer, and the horse market that takes place the first Sunday of each month.

The leisure park has been granted the label "Tourisme et Handicap" thanks to all the arrangements it has made over the past few years to welcome disabled people and enable them to practice para-sports.

A route in the heart of the village will allow you to cross the Vendinelle via the Pont-vieux, a 15th century structure from which a toll was collected, and to discover the classified windows of the flamboyant Gothic style of the Sarda de Caumont House, an outbuilding of the old castle. A former Gallo-Roman villa, Auriac sur Vendinelle is a picturesque village that was built around its castle in the 11th century. Its religious heritage is quite atypical. The square bell tower of the Sainte Marie Madeleine church is indeed the former keep of the fortress castle. The listed chapel of Noumérens, in Romanesque style, contains a fragment of an 8th century sarcophagus containing a chrism and a rosette, symbols of the early Christian Church.

This English-style floral park stretches over almost nine acres and is classified as an ‘outstanding garden’. Here you’ll find all kinds of gardens with more than 2500 different varieties of plant from all five continents, an exotic greenhouse, banana trees, a lotus temple and a mini-farm (complete with baby deer, mini-goats, angoras and highland cows.) There’s also a shaded picnic area and a garden centre where you can buy plants.

The town of Revel was founded by the French King Philippe VI in 1342. This bastide is organised around a central square where the streets converge in a grid pattern. This square with its polychrome galleries and arcades of brick, wood and stone is a real setting for a splendid medieval market hall. The 14th century market hall is one of the largest in France. It is 39 m each side and is supported by 79 oak pillars. It is the heart Revel citizen life, especially on Saturday mornings when one of the 10 most beautiful markets in France takes place. Revel Belfry, neo-classical style, dates from 1834 replacing a half-timbered and bricks architecture. The belfry rings the bell for the whole town. The country guard and town crier lived there until 1965. It had several functions: watchtower, town clocks and bells, prison and town hall. These two intertwined buildings are subject to a major restoration campaign scheduled to run from late 2024 to spring 2026. Climbing up the belfry will no longer be possible. The roof will be re-tiled, fragile beams replaced, some pillars reinforced, the bell tower masonry restored. The dome covered with its original mateial: fish-scale slates. The clocks will be settled in their original height and the terrace cladding removed to reveal the terracotta floor tiles of it conceals. The terrace door will be returned to its original position. The interior of the tower will also be refurbished to provide the best possible conditions to welcome the public after the works. In the meantime, the Tourist Office will be moved to the Musée du Bois et de la Marqueterie.

Taking advantage of the force of the wind blowing across Lauragais hillsides or the water flowing through the valleys, several mills have been built in our destination to grind grains from local crops or make textiles. Today, some mills are still part of our landscape, carefully preserved as witnesses to another era. Among the mills still standing, you can admire the following from the road: - Mourvilles-Hautes mill, a windmill and tower with two pairs of millstones, whose roof was restored in 1997. A second, more recent mill in front of the miller's house has a tiled roof. - Three mills in Le Vaux are located below the castle, a little further south. One of these mills is among the eldest in the area, dating back to the 16th century. - the windmills of Saint-Félix-Lauragais, located on the aptly-named ‘butte des trois moulins’, visible from the Rue des Nobles, the Moulin du Chapitre at the foot of the Montfort tower and the Moulin de la Croix (on the Route de Toulouse, next to the chemist's shop), which was given a state-of-the-art wooden roof in autumn 2024. - There are also mills along Sor stream between Revel and Durfort. These are private properties. Moulin du Chapitre and Moulin de l'Abbé offer bed and breakfast accommodation. - Durfort town council has created a heritage trail upstream from the village, along Sor. The house has two comfortable, independent double bedrooms, designed to offer each guest their own space. - The first, on the ground floor, has independent access, a 160x200 bed, a private shower room with WC, a television, a generous courtesy tray and a private terrace area. It also connects to the communal lounge for those who wish to share a moment with the guests. - The second bedroom, on the first floor, has a 160x200 double bed, a private shower room with dressing area, a separate private WC on the landing, a television and a well-stocked hospitality tray. On the ground floor, you'll find a large, bright living room, a convivial dining room, a modern kitchen available if required, and several relaxation areas for reading, chatting or relaxing.
