Beside the beautiful parish church, the ancient graveyard became a medieval garden designed upon the theme of "live and death". Twelve rectangles symbolise the twelve apostles and the twelve month of the year. As in the 13th century, the rectangles bordered by sandstone pavement are supposed to produce medical herbs, which are protected by willow branches. The flowerbeds are more decorative and surrounded by small box trees are reminding of the spiritual lectures of the symbols in the 15th century. The plants, which were all regularly used for medical purposes in the Middle Ages, bring back to memory almost forgotten smells. This medieval garden is open every day and the entrance is free. Please note that picking is forbidden, due to the toxicity of some plants.

A real nice and romantic feeling gets you as you stroll over the place. Numerous bridges go over the Orvanne. The local church has on its turret top the head of a pig legend has it that the village’s inhabitants refused help to their neighbour village during the great plague of pestilence in the 15th century and the bishop condemned the village not to have a simple weathercock but also a pig head as symbol on the church turret it spins according to the wind directions. Come and admire the magnificent wall paintings in this church, known as the Chapelle de Lourps! The chapel of Lourps is today isolated on its hillside bordered by the Voulzie. But before the Revolution, it was attached to the adjacent castle and served a hamlet whose houses disappeared during the 19th century. Its rectangular plan and gable roof make it a simple building. It has no spire and its bell is housed in the roof structure. Its particularity is revealed inside, with magnificent wall paintings from the 13th and 15th centuries! These were discovered thanks to explorations during the major restoration work that began in the 1980s and lasted 12 years. This work was carried out following the collapse of the choir vault in 1966, which resulted in the chapel being closed to the public. Inside the chapel, you will find a panel describing the different stages of the restoration and a historical booklet to learn more about this real treasure, only 8 km southwest of Provins! One of the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in the Ile de France. The church of the Benedictine priory of Saint-Loup-de-Naud is one of the most beautiful roman style buildings in Ile de France! This church has a unique portal dating from the early Gothic period, sculpted with statue-columns, and fully restored since 2017. The chevet, transept and the first two bays of the nave date from the 11th century. The wall paintings in the choir and apse date from 1867. They replace much older paintings which have now been destroyed, but which have fortunately been recorded (visible on panels available in the church). Only the representation of Saint Savinien, located in the choir on the right, dates from the 12th century. Former ecclesiastical forest and royal hunting ground of King Louis XVI, the Domanial Forest of Villefermoy, in Seine-et-Marne, became state property in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is today a Natura 2000 zone. 60km from Paris and 20km from Melun, located on the municipalities of Échouboulains, Les Écrennes, Valence-en-Brie, Pamfou, La Chapelle-Gauthier, Fontenailles, La Chapelle-Rablais, Coutençon and Laval-en-Brie, this vast and beautiful oak forest is composed of two entities separated by an agricultural zone : the "Forêt de Villefermoy" to the West and the "Bois de Saint-Germain-Laval" to the East. The Villefermoy massif has a long history that can still be found today in the layout of forest roads and above all in the presence of ancient remains. Although its existence has only been attested since the Carolingian era, human activity there is far older. Humans did indeed roam this woodland domain as far back as the Neolithic. It has been inhabited and used, temporarily or permanently, since the Gallo-Roman era. As a former ecclesiastical forest, it was the property of the abbeys of Barbeau, Preuilly, Saint-Germain des Prés and the Commanderie de l'Ordre de Malte de la Croix en Brie before the Revolution. An extension of the Haie de Brie, it served, in the Middle Ages, as a natural boundary between the possessions of the Count of Champagne and the domain of the King of France. The monks exploited it to produce timber and firewood which they used in their abbeys. A forest warden, "Hugues garde des bois" (Hugo custos nemorum), was moreover appointed as early as 1140 in order to oversee the woodland and its exploitation ! The forest gradually became, through exchanges and acquisitions, state property during the 19th and 20th centuries. Its management was then entrusted to the Eaux et Forêts administration and subsequently to the Office National des Forêts (ONF) in 1964. Located at the heart of the humid clay plateau of the Brie, its surface extends over 2641 hetares and presents a fairly flat relief (between 105 and 135m in altitude). It includes a network of ponds and wetlands that shelter a great diversity of amphibians, including several protected species : European tree frog, Grass frog, Spotted salamander, Palmate newt... Rich in more than 120 bird species, it is part of the Natura 2000 zone "Massif de Villefermoy". There are 7 rare and protected nesting species : European honey buzzard, Hen harrier, Black kite, Common kingfisher, Grey-headed woodpecker, Middle spotted woodpecker and Black woodpecker. Populated by roe deer, wild boar and hares, Villefermoy is structured by large straight alleys interspersed with star-shaped crossroads, which bear witness to a long hunting tradition. The fertile soils of the Domanial Forest of Villefermoy are very favourable to the growth of sessile oak. Some of them reach exceptional dimensions. A few remarkable trees are listed and preserved during felling. Since 2006, the living heritage has led the State to classify the entire massif as a Natura 2000 zone (European ecological protection network) for the preservation of birdlife. In total, 4,790 hectares, of which 55% is state forest, are part of the "Natura 2000 Special Protection Zone Massif de Villefermoy" (ZPS). Several kilometers of paved road, gravelled or natural terrain roads are open to the public at Villefermoy. Some paths are marked, such as the long-distance hiking trail of Thibaud de Champagne, the short hiking trails of Grand Grippon and Bois des Moines or walking circuits (paths of the Brie Nangissienne, loop of the 2 massifs). Equipped areas (Huit Routes, Ru Guérin, Pavé de Boulains, Grandvilliers) with car parks, picnic tables, and information points allow walkers to fully enjoy the forest. On the edge of the Loing Canal, this museum will take you to the heart of the story of the "petite reine" bicycle. Housed in a new building, its collection of old and modern bikes will make you travel accross the life of the nineteenth and twentieth century.

The Moret Nuns Barley Sugar has been well-known and appreciated for more than 300 years, It was originally made by the Benedictine nuns who, in 1638, founded a house in Moret, under the name of the Priory of Our Lady of Angels. This sweet, unique in its own way, was the delight of the most important people who carried of large quantities when the Court came to Moret. After having prospered under Louis XIV and gone through a period of glory until 1758, the monastery when through a number of ups and downs and disappeared in 1792. Production also stopped during the Revolution and even the secret recipe seemed to have disappeared forever, washed away with the nuns by the revolutionary tide. Luckily, after the bad days, a nun from the former Moret priory, Sister Felicity, came back with her secret to live in the Moret-sur-Loing region. Before dying, she confided the secret recipe to a faithful friend. Later, when other nuns came to live in Moret, the pious confident, in compliance with the recommendations of the deceased nun, lost no time in handing over the precious formula. In 1853, production started to grow again. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the nuns produced and sold their speciality in a corner of the Place Royale in front of the church. The nuns encountered all kinds of difficulties in the 1960’s. They had to stop production and leave Moret in 1972. In 1970, Sister Marie-André handed the secret of barley sugar to Mr. Jean Rousseau, confectioner. Thanks to the association “Produits et Terroir” this centuries-old speciality has been brought back to life and is being produced again. The new identity of the Mercure Country House hotel has embraced the symbol of the horse, with a subtle, offbeat, and decidedly modern transformation, bringing a design-led, friendly, open, and warm atmosphere to the shared spaces. Just a 1h 20-minute drive from France’s capital city, we have a range of spacious pitches in a natural setting for your tent, caravan or motorhome. Our campsite has 133 pitches set in seven hectares and is nestled between grassy fields, attractive woodland and a fishing pond. At the site, you are just 10 minutes from Fontainebleau; a popular holiday spot renowned for its famous chateau, forest and bouldering areas. Many boulderers the world over come to train on its rocks. Numerous other activities are also on offer close by; from rock-climbing to walks, bike rides, and horse riding in the majestic Fontainebleau forest!

Beautiful isolated farmhouse in the middle of nature. Here are 4 gîtes fitted out on the edge of the forest in a large 18th century farmhouse. The 4 gites are located in the south of the Seine-et-Marne, 80 km from Paris, 20 km from Fontainebleau and 5 km from the A6 motorway exit (easy access).
