Pleasure boaters and professional fishermen share the wharves below the church, where the fishermen's port is like a timeless bubble, a calm and peaceful spot frequented by local wildlife. To facilitate the work of fishermen and boatmen, as well as to protect the banks, protective dikes and harbours were built: the first was the Fishermen's Harbour below the church, built in the early 19th century by the fishermen themselves. It was destroyed by the lake and rebuilt in the 1860s. At that time, steamboats with paddlewheels were already plying the Lake Geneva, but they couldn't dock at the small port's jetty, so passengers had to embark and disembark via a wooden pontoon that extended the short stone jetty still visible today at the foot of the château.

The Chapelle Notre Dame du Lac is a privately-owned property that forms part of the historic estate of the village of Nernier. The purpose of the Notre Dame du Lac association is to safeguard, restore and maintain the chapel. Abbé Favre erects a sanctuary dedicated to the Mother of God under the name of Notre Dame du Lac. He was looking for a suitable plot of land on which to build this religious edifice, and proposed that the commune sell him a plot of land at La Luche du Crot, between Chemin du Cré and Chemin de Frize. In 1856, the municipal council agreed to the construction of the chapel. But it was not until August 1, 1862, that the municipal council agreed to sell the land for the modest sum of 50 francs. The council's deliberations include an essential clause in the contract: "Should the chapel be demolished or cease to be used as a religious service, the land will revert to the Commune by right and without indemnity". As the parcel of land sold was not sufficient, Abbé Favre asked the Comte d'Antioche, who owned the adjacent meadow, to add to the extent of the land by making a donation. In order to build the chapel, Abbé Favre opened a bazaar in Nernier and went begging in Lyon and even as far as Paris. Every year, he made a profit of between 1,500 and 2,000 francs, with the noble family of Saugy helping to finance the project. He launched the construction of the Notre-Dame-du-Lac chapel for the conversion of the Vaud region, the preservation of the Catholic religion in the Chablais region and for boatmen in mortal danger. Breathtaking views of the Pre-Alps and the Swiss coast from the beach

The church, dedicated to Saint Peter, stands in a secluded position between the town and the village of Veret. It was built between 1839 and 1841 in the neo-classical Sardinian style. While the neighboring parishes of Nernier, Yvoire and Excenevex depended on the abbey of Filly, Messery was under the authority of the chapter of St Pierre-de-Genève, and appears to have little income. As early as the 15th century, there was a confraternity of the Holy Spirit. The population then stood at 30, rising to 40 in 1518 and over 50 by the end of the 16th century. As a result, emigration began at the end of the previous century. During the Bernese occupation, Nernier, until then a godchild of Yvoire, became part of Messery in 1540 and remained so until 1793. When the occupiers left, Messery was one of three parishes authorized to retain a Reformed minister. In 1589, in the midst of a religious war, the Baron d'Hermance, governor of Allinges, authorized it to continue celebrating the Lord's Supper, preaching and baptizing, but the chroniclers point out that "there is no exercise in the whole baillage other than here". As a result, the village was spared from the Geneva troops that were ravaging the Chablais region at the time. Similarly, after the mission of St. François de Sales, the parishes of Messery and Nernier, made up mainly of boatmen and fishermen, were reluctant to recant and, along with Yvoire, were among the last to convert. The behavior of the local nobility could only encourage them in this attitude.

You can find in Excenevex the only natural white sand beach on the Leman lakeside, located in a stunning alpine scenery. Separated from Sciez by the Vion river, its gently sloping beach was the reason for its first settlement on Stone Age stilts. And the same beach is still the cause of a remarkable summer tourist boom, which will continue to grow as the bathing and botanical charms of its lake dunes, unique in Western Europe, become better known. In the Bay of Coudrée, the widest part of the lake, violent northeasterly and southwesterly winds create long, hollow waves, which redistribute the fine sublacustrine deposits 5 to 50 m thick towards the bottom of the bay, on top of the glacier-bottom moraines. When the sands are exposed, the wind carries them inland, creating a system of dunes between the mouth of the Foron and Excenevex that is exceptional in Europe. This phenomenon continues to this day, forcing the municipality to install sand nets on the beach in winter to limit the movement of sand. The dunes : The only lake dunes in the whole of Europe, along with those of Hungary's Lake Balaton, their flour-fine sand is thought to have been deposited 12 or 15,000 years ago by the lake's eddies, soon after the Ice Age, when the Rhone current ran up against a sill cutting off Lake Geneva between the Pointe d'Yvoire and Prangins; the breaking of this barrier revealed a part of the lake which the winds shaped into some twenty undulations 600 m wide, and which was then fixed by vegetation ranging from shoreline reeds (now destroyed to clear the beach) to the true and venerable pine forest (stretching as far as Coudrée), passing through a flora which makes it an "oasis of special plants", where botanists have already discovered a large number of Asian specimens, a score of orchid species and, in a scientifically sensational juxtaposition, the only French station of the Arctic Creeping Buttercup.Excerpt from the guide "Le Chablais touristique" (Edition du Messager de la Haute-Savoie 1964). In winter, this beach is a haven for lake wildlife, which specialists come to admire: ducks, swans, coots, scaups, grebes, sandpipers, barges, herons, egrets... which, during strong breezes, rest in the calm waters of the Vion, a small stream meandering through the La Pinède campsite, the natural boundary with the commune of Sciez. In winter, and even more so in leap years, the level of Lake Geneva is lowered, revealing numerous lake dunes. The level of Lake Geneva is not always constant. In the days when Lake Geneva was unregulated, water level variations could reach more than 2 meters. They depended directly on the inflow of water from the rivers in the watershed. Since 1884, flood protection around the entire lake has been guaranteed by an intercantonal agreement (GE, VD, VS) which sets the lake levels to be respected. Regulation is ensured by the Seujet dam in Geneva; in 1995, this structure replaced the Couleuvrinière plant and the Pont de la Machine dam, worn out by 100 years of daily regulation. The normal maximum lake level is 372.30 meters from June to December, and the minimum level is 371.60 meters from March to April. Every 4 years (leap years), this level is lowered to 371.45 meters (to allow maintenance and repair work on lakeside structures), revealing more lake dunes. During floods or heavy rainfall, however, fluctuations can occur, raising the lake level by around 30 cm.
