Embrace Adventure at Camping Le Sougey Lac d'Aiguebelette

There are several difficult passage on the uphill route, so a good level of fitness is required. After the ascent of Col de la Crusille via Nances and Novalaise, you will cross the Banchet mountains from the forest before a not so technical descent towards la Bridoire. The circuit then goes in Chartreuse with the GR9 (Gruat ascent) and on the foothills of Mont Grêle on the road leading to la Pissoire. A long and hard slope that is followed by a softer forest route. Final descent on Aiguebelette-le-Lac before going back to Lépin-le-Lac and the west side of the lake.

A leisurely ride along the lakeshore, a climb up the mountain, a marvellous view from the top of a belvedere, a descent... this is a route full of surprises that will never tire you! To start with, the itinerary takes you on a peaceful ride along the shores of Lac d'Aiguebelette. There's no need to strain your pedals, and you can serenely observe the birds frolicking in the lake and the boats silently splitting the water. Now that your muscles are awake, you can tackle the gentle climb to the Col du Blanchet. At the top, pause to admire the landscape overlooking the lake: it looks so blue from up here. Are you wearing a helmet? Once over the pass, you're in for a vertiginous descent! The climb back up to Sainte-Marie will give you time to recover from your emotions. And there's no question of weakening: it's now time to climb the Col de Crusille. From here, the bike will roll almost on its own towards the lake, in a rural setting with the Chaîne de l'Epine in the background.

Physically challenging walk starting out from Attignat-Onicn, Lépin or Aiguebelette, with a change in altitude of 800 m and a clear view of the lake and its surrounding area (5 ½ to 6 ½ hrs, depending on the route).

Safe and accessible track, open to all types of non-motorised transport including pedestrians, cyclists…great for holidaymakers, leisure activities and for local residents to get around. The walking and cycling path connects the Sougey - Saint Alban de Montbel (west side) to the Combe in Aiguebelette-le-Lac (east side) on about 6 km. You can make stops on the beaches or simply admire the lake of Aiguebelette from the East side.

A route along the gentle side of the Lac d'Aiguebelette basin, featuring the ascent of the Col de la Crusille, followed by a forest crossing of the Banchet Mountain, a non-technical descent, and a peaceful finish along the lake’s western shore. This route extends circuit no. 5 southward from the Col du Banchet. Along the way, you'll take a short detour to the Grand Bec viewpoint (the highest point of the route after the Col du Banchet) for its panoramic view over the Val Guiers. You'll also pass through the charming village of Dullin, and a beautiful descent will take you down to the Rondelet stream (with its old stone bridge). From the Gué des Planches roundabout, the return follows the lake’s western shore via the village of Saint-Alban-de-Montbel.

A gentle loop for discovering the countryside. From the roundabout, ride along the secondary road towards Novalaise during 200m. Take the path on the right going North (back to the lake) 50 m after the bridge on the Leysse. After riding along the Leysse on paths, you will join the busy road of la plaine du lac to go under the highway. Be aware that it is better to stop before crossing and then finding the edges of the Leysse back on a narrow path. Turn right just before an old sawmill (bridge on the Leysse) to rejoin the flowery hamlet of the Gollets. On its exit (summit of circuit N°2), on the right, an undergrowth path enables you to join the edge of the lake. If you go on (circuit n°3), climb towards the church and continue on the road till "Villard". Short descent on the right on the berm, then take an undergrowth path on the left on a rolling section that joins the crumbling of Chavaroche. From there, you will start a slighty technical descent but very pleasant undergrowth, addicts will be pleased. You arrive on a quiet and shady picnic area where you will be able to have a break (water point). The descent rolls on by going left at the cemetery. This part is a bit technical at times. Once in the plains, take the road on your right and follow the markings that will guide you for the part under the highway.

Challenging countryside route, mostly rolling terrain. After climbing up to the halfway point, you will enjoy some slightly technical descents as you head towards the village of Ayn. Beautiful forest crossing between the Col de la Crusille and the Col du Banchet.

An itinerary that’s somewhat demanding, rewarded by the crossing of several mountain passes and the discovery of the Sardinian route, paved with large stone slabs. Only expert trial riders will be able to ride the entire course without dismounting. To be avoided in wet weather.

This difficult route, suited to technical mountain bikers, will delight downhillers. After an ascent on small roads and paths to the ruins of the Villas Doria, you'll head into the forest on a single track with some tight hairpins. To be avoided in wet weather, as the technical sections become risky.

Small campsite right on the water, on the edge of the lac d'Aiguebelette, with a private beach (unsupervised). Amazing view on the Épine mountain. Located in Lépin-le-Lac, the 3-star Le Curtelet campsite welcomes you on a green plot of land at an altitude of 400 metres, nestled at the gateway to the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park and on the shores of Lake Aiguebelette, which is directly accessible from the site.

The last witness to La Bridoire's rich hydraulic past, the Bovagnet mill, located in the heart of the hamlet of Rochassieux, is emerging from a long slumber of over 80 years. Operated in its present form between 1836 and 1939, this flour mill is a rare jewel in our region's heritage, with its installations showing its evolution from milling to flour milling. Now owned by the commune of La Bridoire, the site has been restored, safeguarded, animated and promoted by a team of volunteers from the association "À la découverte du passé de La Bridoire et de ses environs", in partnership with the commune. Their aim is to offer tours of the mill and its vernacular heritage at the same pace as the restoration work, to keep the mill "in its natural state", and to secure and organize the various areas for an educational and authentic discovery of how a 19th-century mill works.

Stronghold, princely palace and symbol of the power of the Counts and Dukes of the Savoie, the Château des Ducs de Savoie brings together a remarkable collection of buildings, constructed between the 13th century and the present day. It is currently the seat of the Préfecture and Département of Savoie. The princes who governed the Savoy State for almost 900 years and the number of administrations that followed have left their mark. Since 1860, when the Savoie region was annexed to France, the Préfecture and the Conseil Général du Département continued this administrative function. This large beach offers a breathtaking view of the lac d'Aiguebelette. Several trees and a green park provide welcome shade and freshness. Located in Savoie and at the entrance of the Natural Park of Chartreuse. 3rd natural lake of France with its 545 hectares, the lake belongs to the De Chambost family and EDF (French electricity provider). Its riverbanks and its triangular phreatic table where you can find two small islands in the south remained wild and preserved. Classified as a Nature Reserve in 2015, the Aiguebelette lake is made of a remarkable ecosystem and natural areas both classified and protected. All the beauties of the wild life, geology, and geography of Aiguebelette lake gathered in a lovely human scale museum. Covering geology, history, lake archaeology, fauna, and flora, the museum features a collection of over 75 protected species, allowing visitors to observe in life-size what they can't see in the wild. The tour enables children and grown ups to learn through testing and observation. This museum, built by the F.A.P.L.A (Federation of the Lac d'Aiguebelette protection associations), offers various reconstructed sceneries. Its collection is the product of 30 years of work from a local association. Workshops and shows are organised: you can go on fapla.fr for more information. Free tours are organised during special events. The museum takes part of Nature Day during spring, and of European heritage Days and Science Day during autumn.

Supervised beach on the edge of Lac d’Aiguebelette : sand, greenery and calm. Rental of pedalos, paddleboards and canoes, snack bar. Please note that barbecues and animals are not allowed on all the lake's beaches.

This small, family-friendly and peaceful beach is located close to the restaurants, the harbor, and the picnic/barbecue area. It offers a panoramic view of the entire western shore of the lake. It has playgrounds for children and a service for renting lounge chairs and umbrellas. It is adjacent to the water sports rental area, where you can find: 7-seat electric boats (no license required), pedal boats, paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks. There are dining options nearby, with three restaurants (Le Beau Rivage, Les Belles Rives, and La Villa du Lac). Swimming is supervised, and the beach has an entrance fee from June 14 to August 31. Groups are welcome on weekdays, except public holidays, by reservation. Please note that pets and barbecues are prohibited on all beaches of the LAc d'Aiguebelette.

On 6 March 2015, the Region designated Lac d'Aiguebelette and part of the Epine forest as a Regional Natural Reserve (844 hectares). The quality of the Aiguebelette lake and its aquatic environment, the richness of its wet areas, the diversity of its forest side and its archeological remains have created a remarkable heritage that justifies its classification. It's a recognition of several decades of commitment from the local councillors and the protection associations of the lake who managed to take the founding measures to protect the lake and its surroundings as soon as the 1970's. With more than 60 endangered species and about twenty natural habitats, the perimeter of the Reserve is full of biogeographic influences such as natural habitats from the Pre Alpine context to dry Mediterranean habitats. The objective is not to sanctuarise the place. The reserve's purpose is to protect the current heritage, but it also recognises the current use (tourism, fishing, hunting, rowing) while making sure the place develops itself along with the fauna and flora. The administrators of the Reserve are the Aiguebelette lake local council community (CCLA) and the Savoy Natural Spaces Protection Committee (CENS). In 1516, the King came to Chambéry for the Holy Shroud at the beginning of his reign. On his return, the King and his court were caught in a violent storm... The only protection they found was this rock shelter for the night.

At the Col de l'Epine (alt : 987 m), the mountain’s western slope offers fantastic viewpoints of Chambéry, the southern tip of Lac du Bourget and the Bauges mountains. On the eastern slope, there is a superb view point over Lac d’Aiguebelette. The Saint-Michel and Crucifix passes used to be taken by Roman and Sardinian routes, they overlook the Aiguebelette lake and are accessible for hiking.
