This airy route across the western flank of the Montagne de l'Epine overlooks France’s third largest natural lake, providing numerous vantage points from which to admire the 70 hectares of wetlands surrounding the lake. The path you're following was laid out by the old charcoal makers who used to go into the forest to make charcoal. If you see large metal vats along the way, these are the remains of the old furnaces. Today, this activity has disappeared, and this pretty balcony path is no longer used by courageous workers, but by peaceful hikers! It crosses the Lac d'Aiguebelette regional nature reserve, and if the children are quiet and discreet enough, they may catch a glimpse of chamois, or even lynx! But in this case, you'll have to be very lucky, as lynxes are very shy and particularly difficult to observe... all the more so as they move around mainly at night, like the bats that also inhabit the area. The one that doesn't move from here and that you'll see every time is Lake Aiguebelette, basking at the foot of the mountain! Take time to contemplate it from the viewpoints.

Gentle hike that suits all ages (1 ½ to 3 hrs). Option of visiting the ruins of Château de l’Epine where it is alleged that a thorn from Christ’s crown was buried by one of the lords of Montbel. Stop off at the Sainte Rose chapel on the way back down. Enjoy this family hike that takes you to the heights of Nances. Discover the church of this small village, dating back to 1878, before traveling through time to reach the Sainte Rose Chapel, built in the 17th century. Erected on the edge of an old road leading to the Col de l’Épine and near a water source, this chapel was a place of procession during drought periods. Along the way, feel free to take a short detour to the Villas Dorias and their nice viewpoint.

Very difficult level. The route takes riders up the Col de l’Epine (987 m). Take care – several sections are very technical. Follow the route of circuit no. 4 to the Villas Doria ruins, then take the Col de l'Epine road for 2 km. Shortly before the pass, take the forest road leading to the Combe d'Armée parking lot. At the parking lot, take the path on the left. The climb quickly becomes steep, with one section requiring you to push your bike. At a fork in the road, don't continue towards Château Richard, but go straight ahead. You'll pass through a relatively flat section before descending again. Follow the signs through the forest. You come to a tarmac forest road, which you follow down to a chalet-restaurant, before which you continue to the left and descend into the forest. Be careful, some passages become very technical. Be sure to follow the signposts, as there are many junctions along the way. The route eventually leaves the forest and forks left onto the D41. It crosses La Rossière, from where you have a magnificent view of the lake. Don't forget to take the road back up to the Doria villas (1 km) for the final descent through the Nances forest to Lac d'Aiguebelette (circuit no. 4).

Difficult level. This route will delight downhillers. After an ascent on small roads and paths to the ruins of the Villas Doria, you'll head into the forest on a single track with some tight hairpins. Marked mountain bike circuit no. 4. Start from the parking lot behind Vertes Sensations. 50m after the bridge over the Leysse, take the path to the right, heading north (with your back to the lake). After skirting the Leysse on footpaths, you join the busy lake plain road to pass under the freeway. Caution: it's best to stop before crossing the motorway and return to the banks of the Leysse on a narrow path. Then turn right just before an old sawmill (bridge over the Leysse) to reach the flower-filled hamlet of Les Gollets. Follow the road up to the Nances church, then continue along the "Villard" road to Les Giffards. Take the wide path that climbs to the right between the houses to reach the top of the trail to the ruins of the Villas Doria (easy for VTTAe, but hard on the muscles!). The beautiful descent to the lake begins! You're soon in the forest on a single track that poses no major problems apart from a few tight hairpins. Lovers of technique will appreciate the hairpin bends and tricky sections. We pass the Nances cemetery. The route becomes a little less technical, although there are still some fine sections. When you reach a small road, turn right, then at Les Bellemins, turn left and go straight on at the bread oven, then take a passage under the freeway. This route is rated red (despite its distance), as it is best suited to technical mountain bikers. To be avoided in wet weather, as the technical sections become quite risky.

Difficult level. Explore the countryside around Novalaise. From the start, follow route no. 4 to "Les Guillets", then descend through the village of Novalaise. The itinerary is rolling, climbing up to the halfway point, then taking advantage of the slightly technical descents to reach the village of Ayn. The link between the Col de la Crusille (572 m) and the Col du Banchet (590 m) is shaded by forest. At Banchet, a beautiful viewpoint invites you to take a break. At Ayn, plunge into a small combe before climbing back up... hard. A short turn onto a plateau with an unobstructed view, and you're off again for a descent that will remain in your memories. Rejoin circuit N° 3 at the end of the route to cross the Nances forest, making sure you follow the direction of traffic!

It's a slightly challenging route, which will be rewarded by the crossing of several passes and the discovery of the Sardinian Way, paved with large flagstones. Only expert trialists will be able to descend the entire course on their bikes. Avoid wet weather. Start from the parking lot behind Vertes Sensations. 50m after the bridge over the Leysse, take a path to the right, heading north (with your back to the lake). Follow the route of circuit no. 4 to the ruins of the Villas-Doria (steep final climb on a path). You then take the Col de l'Epine road for 2km before leaving it on your right (short descent). You then take forest tracks. You'll pass between rocks via the Pas de la Crevasse before reaching the Col de l'Epine, then forest tracks and a pretty single track to the Col du Crucifix (915m). From here, you can take the voie Sarde (on your right) to descend directly, or continue towards the Col Saint-Michel (903m) from where you can admire the lake. The link between the two passes is punctuated by a number of short steep climbs. Just before the Col St Michel, take care as there's a steep descent ahead. Caution is essential! (Only expert trialists will be able to ride their bikes downhill). At the pass, you can enjoy a long descent, first on a single track (narrow path), then on the Sardinian Way to the "Allemands" parking lot. Continue downhill to "La Grange du Trieu". Take the 2nd road on your right and continue on this short stretch of asphalt. Watch out for the gullies across the road, which may surprise you. The last part of the descent is on an uneven path alongside a stream, which is always a little slippery. Even if it's not steep, beware of carelessness! Stay focused. Return to the starting point on the greenway that runs along the east shore of the lake.

Difficult level. Route on the gentle slopes of the Lac d'Aiguebelette basin. Ascent of the Col de la Crusille then forest crossing of the Montagne du Banchet. Gentle descent through the village of Dullin to the Rondelet stream. Return to the west shore of the lake. This circuit gives you the opportunity to extend circuit n°5 towards south from the Banchet pass. It takes the same itinerary than Les Chemins du Soleil till Gué des Planches (roundabout). You can make a detour to go to the Grand Bec lookout (summit of the itinerary after the Banchet pass) to enjoy its panoramic view on Val Guiers. You will also cross the charming village of Dullin, and go through a nice descent that will bring you to the Rondelet stream (old stone bridge). From Gué des Planches, the way back goes through the west side of the lake via St-Alban-de-Montbel.

Easy level. Gentle loop for discovering the countryside. Mountain bike marked circuit n°3 variant (8 km) Loops to discover the place smoothly... From the roundabout, ride along the secondary road towards Novalaise during 200m. Take the path on the right going North (back to the lake) 50 m after the bridge on the Leysse. After riding along the Leysse on paths, you will join the busy road of la plaine du lac to go under the highway. Be aware that it is better to stop before crossing and then finding the edges of the Leysse back on a narrow path. Turn right just before an old sawmill (bridge on the Leysse) to rejoin the flowery hamlet of the Gollets. On its exit (summit of circuit N°2), on the right, an undergrowth path enables you to join the edge of the lake. If you go on (circuit n°3), climb towards the church and continue on the road till "Villard". Short descent on the right on the berm, then take an undergrowth path on the left on a rolling section that joins the crumbling of Chavaroche. From there, you will start a slighty technical descent but very pleasant undergrowth, addicts will be pleased. You arrive on a quiet and shady picnic area where you will be able to have a break (water point). The descent rolls on by going left at the cemetery. This part is a bit technical at times. Once in the plains, take the road on your right and follow the markings that will guide you for the part under the highway.

Very difficult level. There are several difficult passage on the uphill route, so a good level of fitness is required. After the ascent of Col de la Crusille via Nances and Novalaise, you will cross the Banchet mountains from the forest before a not so technical descent towards la Bridoire. The circuit then goes in Chartreuse with the GR9 (Gruat ascent) and on the foothills of Mont Grêle on the road leading to la Pissoire. A long and hard slope that is followed by a softer forest route. Final descent on Aiguebelette-le-Lac before going back to Lépin-le-Lac and the west side of the lake.

Safe and accessible track, open to all types of non-motorised transport including pedestrians, cyclists…great for holidaymakers, leisure activities and for local residents to get around. The walking and cycling path connects the Sougey - Saint Alban de Montbel (west side) to the Combe in Aiguebelette-le-Lac (east side) on about 6 km. You can make stops on the beaches or simply admire the lake of Aiguebelette from the East side.

We possess a large range of bicycles: hybrid bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, electric hybrid and mountain bikes, trailers for kids, baby seats, children bikes... Small family campsite right on the water, on the edge of the lac d'Aiguebelette, with a private beach (unsupervised). Amazing view on the Épine mountain. Located in Lépin-le-Lac, the 3-star Le Curtelet campsite welcomes you on a green plot of land at an altitude of 400 metres, nestled at the gateway to the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park and on the shores of Lake Aiguebelette, which is directly accessible from the site. In the waterfront campsite, you can install your motorhomes, tents and caravans on shaded or semi-shaded pitches, with possible access to an electric hook-up.

This unique railway roundhouse, built between 1906 and 1910, features an articulated metal structure similar to the Eiffel Tower. Mandatory guided tours. The exceptional railway situation of Chambéry has led to build the engine shed, to make easier the manoeuvre and the maintenance of the locomotives. This is one of the last big building of a metal articulated structure of longue range in France, this technique having then disappeared with the coming of the reinforced concrete. It is composed of two parts : a ring of 27m of width and a dome of 55m of diameter. The building is 34m high, 110m of diameter and is weighting 900 ton. While the railway installation were the Allies target, the engine shed has been miraculously spared by the bombing of 1944.When its destruction has been evoked in 1980, some railway workers passioned will succeed in convincing the SNCF direction to preserve this precious industrial testimony of the early XXth century. It has been classified historical monument in 1984. Maintained and restored progressivly by the SNCF, it is still used for the maintenance of about fifty locomotives, including a machine from the 1900's.

Anaïs trained at the Lyon School of Naturopathy in 2014, and very quickly wanted a training site nestled in nature. Guillaume took charge of the project, and we did everything ourselves, from floor to ceiling :) We have two children, Théo and Jade, who are accompanying us on this wonderful adventure. Both trained in yoga, we studied, designed and built the Cocoon space to meet the demands of wellness practices.

Old fortified house remodeled in the 18th century. Vaulserre presents one of the most beautiful combinations of architecture, decorations and landscapes of the Dauphiné. Located 5km from Chartreuse natural park, the castle is an old fortified house remodeled in the 18th century. Its rigorously ordered main façade is adorned with a sculpted triangular pediment. The vestibule is decorated with magnificent wall trompe-l'oeil of Italian influence. House of decorations and colors made to seduce, Vaulserre presents one of the most beautiful combinations of architecture, decorations and landscape of the Dauphiné, witness of the art of living of a large family in the 18th century. The castle was the setting for Jean Paul Rappeneau's film "Le Hussard sur le Toit" with Olivier Martinez and Juliette Binoche.

On 6 March 2015, the Region designated Lac d'Aiguebelette and part of the Epine forest as a Regional Natural Reserve (844 hectares). The quality of the Aiguebelette lake and its aquatic environment, the richness of its wet areas, the diversity of its forest side and its archeological remains have created a remarkable heritage that justifies its classification. It's a recognition of several decades of commitment from the local councillors and the protection associations of the lake who managed to take the founding measures to protect the lake and its surroundings as soon as the 1970's. With more than 60 endangered species and about twenty natural habitats, the perimeter of the Reserve is full of biogeographic influences such as natural habitats from the Pre Alpine context to dry Mediterranean habitats. The objective is not to sanctuarise the place. The reserve's purpose is to protect the current heritage, but it also recognises the current use (tourism, fishing, hunting, rowing) while making sure the place develops itself along with the fauna and flora. The administrators of the Reserve are the Aiguebelette lake local council community (CCLA) and the Savoy Natural Spaces Protection Committee (CENS). At the Col de l'Epine (alt : 987 m), the mountain’s western slope offers fantastic viewpoints of Chambéry, the southern tip of Lac du Bourget and the Bauges mountains. On the eastern slope, there is a superb view point over Lac d’Aiguebelette. The Saint-Michel and Crucifix passes used to be taken by Roman and Sardinian routes, they overlook the Aiguebelette lake and are accessible for hiking.

All the beauties of the wild life, geology, and geography of Aiguebelette lake gathered in a lovely human scale museum. Covering geology, history, lake archaeology, fauna, and flora, the museum features a collection of over 75 protected species, allowing visitors to observe in life-size what they can't see in the wild. The tour enables children and grown ups to learn through testing and observation. This museum, built by the F.A.P.L.A (Federation of the Lac d'Aiguebelette protection associations), offers various reconstructed sceneries. Its collection is the product of 30 years of work from a local association. Workshops and shows are organised every week: you can go on fapla.fr for more information. Free tours are organised during special events. The museum takes part of Nature Day during spring, and of European heritage Days and Science Day during autumn.

Classified as a Nature Reserve in 2015, the Aiguebelette lake is made of a remarkable ecosystem and natural areas both classified and protected. The ecological diversity and the water quality of the lake, which by the way constitutes a reservoir of drinking water for 14 towns, is guaranteed by 70 hectares of reed beds, pastures, wet afforestations and aquatic plant habitats. Several protective measures are implemented and boats with combustion engines are forbidden in order to protect the purity and the beauty of the water. From the little village of St-Alban-de-Montbel, where the church majestically overhangs the lake, the panoramic views span over the south of Lac d’Aiguebelette, its islands, reed beds, little houses with their boat sheds and Epine Mountain. Landscape reading table located further down the church. Possibility to go on a family nature walk (3 km back and forth) till the Sougey outdoor activities centre where people can enjoy the panorama and the beach all year long! Thanks to thematic kiosks throughout the path, visitors will be able to discover and understand the natural habitat that surrounds them.

A must-see site for amateurs of the great outdoors : panoramic view over the districts of Yenne ande Novalaise. The ideal place to enjoy a sunset. Coming from Verthemex center, head towards Vacheresse. The viewpoint indicator is on the left hand side, right before the hamlet of La Vellaz.

Small supervised beach, very close to the restaurants, the port, and the picnic/barbecue area. Rental of deck chairs, umbrellas, and boats: electric boats (no license required), paddleboards, pedal boats, canoes, kayaks. Please note that animals are forbidden on all the lake's beaches. Barbecues are allowed only on the port's picnic area but visitors have to bring their own. Ground fires strictly forbidden.

It is 18km from the lake of Aiguebelette, 10km from Waliby and 3km from the city center. There are 2 guestrooms in a 1,3-hectare park in Saint-Genix sur Guiers in Savoie Mont Blanc. The Manaslu guestroom can take 2 to 4 people, there are 2 single beds, one double bed and a balcony. The Annapurna guestroom can take 2 people, there are 2 single beds. There is a bathroom and an independent toilet for each room. the park has also been set up with resting parts. It was rewarded by the region for its fine flower arrangements. Le Cocoon A 120m2 gîte for 15 people, with a kitchen and living room on the first floor, 7 bedrooms upstairs and independent sanitary facilities on the first floor. Le Cocoon Dôme, an independent 28m2 room, ideal for your practices and meetings (geodesic dome), nestled in the middle of the undergrowth and accessible via a footpath. It all started from there... We dreamed of creating a resource site, a wellness area in the heart of our undergrowth in the Savoyard foreland. Anaïs trained at the Lyon School of Naturopathy in 2014, and very quickly wanted a training site nestled in nature. Guillaume took charge of the project, and we did everything ourselves, from floor to ceiling :) We have two children, Théo and Jade, who are accompanying us on this wonderful adventure. Both trained in yoga, we studied, designed and built the Cocoon space to meet the demands of wellness practices.

The 2 stars camping is located not far from the picturesque village of St Genix sur Guiers. You will be able to rent mobile home, tent or original wooden shed, camping site. The camping also have a swimming pool !
