The hamlets of Sainte Reine on a loop
3.2 km

The hamlets of Sainte Reine on a loop

A lovely little family hike in a bucolic setting, discovering pretty hamlets typical of the massif, nestled in a valley in the heart of the high peaks of the Bauges. D / Sainte Reine town hall and church parking lots 1/ Take the road towards Epernay and join the departmental road. The view of the peaks is already superb. 2/ Cross the main road and turn opposite. Continue straight through the village. Take time to observe the buildings and structures: typical Baujues houses, chapel, fountain, richly carved wooden door... 3/ At the "Epernay la fruitière" crossroads, turn right towards Routhennes, and right again at the next crossroads (signposted "Sur les frênes"). 4/ At a junction of forest tracks, turn left. The track climbs a few hairpin bends, then continues southwards on a slope. 5/ Follow this forest track for a long while. You will then come to a sign for "Roche blanche", continue to follow Routhennes. 6/ The track descends towards the hamlet. When it returns to the flat, turn right at an intersection and leave the track in front of you, which rises slightly. 7/ In the village, cross the parking lot in front of you to join the main road. Here, too, you can enjoy the architecture of the hamlet. 8/ From the hamlet, follow the yellow signs. Cross the road and take the road opposite (direction Epernay). 9/ A few metres further up, take the 1st road on the right. This soon becomes a track. Go ahead again for a few metres, then take another track rising to the left. 10/ The track crosses several pastures. The yellow markings make you turn right twice: first at a goose-paste intersection, then at an old building. You've now reached the starting parking lot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------On arrival, please respect the parking spaces provided. Cars parked outside the spaces are likely to obstruct traffic, emergency services or local residents. This loop hike can depart from Sainte Reine, Epernay or Routhennes. Don't forget to carpool or take the shuttle to the Bauges.

Footpath Tannes et glacières of Margériaz

Gouffres, tannes, glacières, pont de pierre, grotte des fées... this mountain is a veritable gruyère of limestone shaped by water! Follow the discovery trail through the caves of the Margériaz and discover all their mysteries. From the car park, the trail leads you to Place à Baban, then follows a path that climbs through the forest. Beneath your feet, the Margériaz plateau is made of limestone. Water has dissolved the rock, creating numerous galleries. Along the way, venture into the caves and feel the dampness of the stone. Don't go too deep, though, as this is where the fairies live. Reach your hand over the chasms and feel the cold of the snowfields preserved in their depths. If you want to extend your hike, take the path that climbs up through the rocks to reach the ridge. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with superb views of the Belledonne mountain range, the Granier... The path winds its way down through the mountain pastures, where you'll see lapiaz formations carved out by water runoff. You may even come across a herd grazing peacefully here. On the way back through the forest, Margériaz has a few more geological curiosities in store for you, so keep your eyes peeled! ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- Speleorando, located on this discovery trail, is an introduction to caving where it is advisable to be accompanied by a guide.

Forge des Allues
5.9 km

Forge des Allues

This former hydraulic forge and the two visible trip hammers reveal the pre-industrial past of the Massif des Bauges. Explore this heritage through the game 'La conquête des droits d'eau' (Conquest for the rights over the water). The forge was built on the right bank of the diversion called Otton-le-Jeune, which reaches the Forge des Allues due to a largely open-topped, stone channel that passes along the houses of the hamlet. Just before arriving at the forge, notice that the stone edges of this channel are carved in order to be used as a spillway. Along the final metres, the water flows down a metal channel, which divides in two: one stream powers the forge's turbines, whilst the other powers a hydraulic horn, which acts as bellows for the forge. Pieces of the channel are still visible, but the horn has since been dismantled. Large glass windows have been installed to let the public see inside the building. The majority of the equipment and fittings are still visible, in particular the two trip hammers and their camshaft. These trip hammers still work, thanks to a vertical outdoor Canson turbine, which can still be seen along the north side of the building. A metal walkway has been built above the waterways so that visitors can get close to the wheel. The forge was also equipped with another, smaller Canson turbine, which powers different machines (sharpening stones, column drills etc.). In 2011, the tools in the forge were inventoried.
