Description

A lovely little family hike in a bucolic setting, discovering pretty hamlets typical of the massif, nestled in a valley in the heart of the high peaks of the Bauges.

D / Sainte Reine town hall and church parking lots

1/ Take the road towards Epernay and join the departmental road. The view of the peaks is already superb.

2/ Cross the main road and turn opposite.
Continue straight through the village.
Take time to observe the buildings and structures: typical Baujues houses, chapel, fountain, richly carved wooden door...

3/ At the "Epernay la fruitière" crossroads, turn right towards Routhennes, and right again at the next crossroads (signposted "Sur les frênes").

4/ At a junction of forest tracks, turn left.
The track climbs a few hairpin bends, then continues southwards on a slope.

5/ Follow this forest track for a long while.
You will then come to a sign for "Roche blanche", continue to follow Routhennes.

6/ The track descends towards the hamlet.
When it returns to the flat, turn right at an intersection and leave the track in front of you, which rises slightly.

7/ In the village, cross the parking lot in front of you to join the main road.
Here, too, you can enjoy the architecture of the hamlet.

8/ From the hamlet, follow the yellow signs.
Cross the road and take the road opposite (direction Epernay).

9/ A few metres further up, take the 1st road on the right.
This soon becomes a track.
Go ahead again for a few metres, then take another track rising to the left.

10/ The track crosses several pastures. The yellow markings make you turn right twice: first at a goose-paste intersection, then at an old building. You've now reached the starting parking lot.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------On arrival, please respect the parking spaces provided.
Cars parked outside the spaces are likely to obstruct traffic, emergency services or local residents.
This loop hike can depart from Sainte Reine, Epernay or Routhennes.
Don't forget to carpool or take the shuttle to the Bauges.
