Description

Climb between chasms and lapiaz to reach the Margériaz cliff and savor the magical panorama of the surrounding mountains. There, with Mt Blanc within your grasp, the chocards will be inviting you in for a snack, much to your delight.

D/ Car park next to the Val d'Aillon cheese dairy.

1/ Follow the road towards Lescheraines for a few hundred metres and before the hamlet of Roquerand, take the climbing path.

2/ At the first crossroads, turn left to go to Mont de la Croix, passing the Chalet du Replat, then take a short break at Col de la Verne 1517m.

3/ Once you've negotiated the small rise above the Col, you're on the plateau. Reach the edge of the cliffs at sight, and walk carefully along them to the summit of Margeriaz (1845m).

>>From this point, you can savour the magical panorama of the surrounding massifs, with Mt Blanc within your reach, protected by Mont Colombier.

4/ Continue your itinerary.
A little before the Golet de l'Agneau, a lovely grassy area dotted with small pine trees offers itself to you for a picnic break, where the chocards will invite themselves for your delight.

5/ You return by the same route, following the edge of the cliffs to the Alpages ski lift.

6/ From here, you join the Tannes et Glacières discovery trail (well-marked and dotted with discreet wooden signs about the geological curiosities encountered, you'll pass the Tanne du Névé cave).

7/ The trail crosses several tracks used in winter by sled dogs and ends at Place à Baban (1330m).

8/ Leave the GR and take the path towards Grotte aux fées, then head for the combe de la Verne before reaching the crossroads above Roquerand, where you can return to the parking lot.
