This circuit gives an insight into the plants grown in the Combe de Savoie, where plant nurseries, crops and poplar groves are interspersed along the irrigation channels and along the clean-up of the marshes that used to form the Plaine de l'Isère. From the leisure centre car park, take the path along the canal at the end of the lake, right bank ('Promenade du Canal'), then turn left at the roundabout towards the waste disposal centre. After a pond, turn left along a path that follows the railway, until you reach St Jean de la Porte. Turn left along the departmental road for 400m (passing in front of the cemetery), then turn right along a path following the canal, staying on the same side of the canal, until you reach a crossroads with the RN6 (Monument aux Morts). The return leg follows the same route, but alternatives are possible.

Between the last few hairpin bends, a few flat spots give you the chance to ease off the pedals and enjoy the scenery. After a final bend, you emerge from the forest canopy and the sunlight greets you at the pass. Take a breather: you've arrived in the Bauges massif! A lovely climb. This former hydraulic forge and the two visible trip hammers reveal the pre-industrial past of the Massif des Bauges. Explore this heritage through the game 'La conquête des droits d'eau' (Conquest for the rights over the water). The forge was built on the right bank of the diversion called Otton-le-Jeune, which reaches the Forge des Allues due to a largely open-topped, stone channel that passes along the houses of the hamlet. Just before arriving at the forge, notice that the stone edges of this channel are carved in order to be used as a spillway. Along the final metres, the water flows down a metal channel, which divides in two: one stream powers the forge's turbines, whilst the other powers a hydraulic horn, which acts as bellows for the forge. Pieces of the channel are still visible, but the horn has since been dismantled. Large glass windows have been installed to let the public see inside the building. The majority of the equipment and fittings are still visible, in particular the two trip hammers and their camshaft. These trip hammers still work, thanks to a vertical outdoor Canson turbine, which can still be seen along the north side of the building. A metal walkway has been built above the waterways so that visitors can get close to the wheel. The forge was also equipped with another, smaller Canson turbine, which powers different machines (sharpening stones, column drills etc.). In 2011, the tools in the forge were inventoried.

Within its high walls was one of the most feared prisons in the Etats de Savoie. It's not hard to imagine the plaintive cries of the prisoners coming from these spooky gaols, the most famous prisoner being the Marquis de Sade, as well as the clanking of chains or the squeaking of heavy doors. Today, the château is open the public; this venerable stone building contains a charming Medieval-inspired garden. The different terraces overlooking the garden are as much open passageways over a vast horizon of Alpine peaks. From the snow-covered ridges of Mont Blanc to the distant foothills of Vercours, passing through the Dent de l'Arclusaz or the Chaîne de la Lauzière, they provide the château with a spectacular mountainous backdrop.

The church is dedicated to Saint Laurent and is located in Aiton le haut. It was built in 1700. It contains the bones of a famous prior of Aiton, Cardinal Jean de Ségovie.

The Chapelle de la Sainte Fontaine was built in 1839 on the site of a former priory, which was founded and inhabited by the Benedictine monks from the year 1050 until the French Revolution. Until the beginning of the 18th century, the Benedictine monks owned the second-richest estate in the Bauges, after the Chartreux d'Aillons. Located in the heart of the Réserve de Chasse et de Faune Sauvage des Bauges, the chapel contains the remains of the Pères de Bellevaux and is a pilgrimage destination on the Monday of Pentecost. There is a signposted nature trail from the Maison Faune-Flore. Take the 'Vallon de Balleveaux' path to learn more about the secrets of the wildlife, plants, activities and agriculture.
