Club du Soleil Mulhouse: Discover Ensisheim and Alsace

Starting from Ensisheim, the trail takes you on a discovery tour of the special industrial heritage of the potash basin: pit heads, mining estates etc. Moreover, you can also explore the rich natural surroundings such as the banks of the River Thur, Nonnenbruch Forest and Seeboden Lakes. The itinerary takes you along EuroVelo 5 by the side of the Thur and skirts the Alsace Heritage Museum and the Petit Prince amusement park.

Discover the secrets of water power and industrial development in the Thur valley - educational panels along the way take you back in time to the days when the Thur was lined with mills: paper mills, flour mills, oil mills and more. The route starts at Lac de Kruth-Wildenstein, the largest reservoir in the Massif des Vosges, which is a wonderful leisure base overlooked by the ruins of Schlossberg castle. The Thur Valley cycle route takes you to the Wesserling park, the textile Ecomuseum and its gardens, and Thann, the southern gateway to the Alsace Wine Route.

This easy itinerary allows you to discover the surroundings of two of the main leisure parks in Alsace as well as some of the best preserved remains of the industrial heritage of the Alsace Potash Mines. You will be led through farmland but also through the forest that runs along the Thur and its tributaries.

Small walking track, accessible to strollers able to roll out of bitumen. This track passes in a forest, near from a menhir and in a part of a Stations of the Cross.

The theme of this walk is potash, and it takes you around one of the rare mining sites to have preserved its headframe, the Théodore mine. The route leads through fields, woods and Wittenheim towns, with a stop at the memorial to the 827 victims of mining accidents, as well as the "Romanian monument" and the remains of the former Schoenensteinbach convent.

This very varied tour takes us through the municipal banns of Wittenheim and Ruelisheim. It allows you to walk in the countryside around the two communes and to discover emblematic public facilities as well as places of worship and mining installations in the potassium basin. The start and finish of the tour is at the Wittenheim town hall. A parking lot allows you to park your car.

This trail, which follows EuroVelo 5 and 6, starts at Battenheim and takes you along peaceful rivers and canals at the heart of Mulhouse, with its rich historical and industrial heritage. You can benefit from the various facilities made available to cyclists to add a cultural touch to this circuit. You then continue in the decidedly rural atmosphere through state-owned Harth Forest which will gently take you back to your starting point.

The tour, which stretches between Baldersheim and Battenheim, winds along both banks of the Quatelbach, a peaceful river in the plain that was probably dug out in the Middle Ages by human hands to irrigate various villages and operate mills. The route, without difficulties, partly follows a pleasant cycle path and can be covered in its entirety by VTC (mountain bike). Departure and arrival are near the town hall of Baldersheim.

This circuit accessible to strollers you can enjoy beautiful landscapes at the foot and in the vineyards around Bergholtz and Bergholtz-Zell. The first part of the circuit follows the cycle track EV5. You will pass near the Way of the Cross Oelberg (not accessible with a stroller) and you will enjoy a beautiful view from the vineyard of Bergholtz-Zell.Ce circuit presents no particular difficulties but requires crossing 2 times the Wine Route. Be careful !

Nearby is the Romanian military cemetery of Gauchmatt. You can have refreshments on the way back at the Langenstein menhir. The Val du Pâtre Chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary since the 13th century and is a Mecca of scouting. The military cemetery of Gauchmatt is the only Romanian cemetery for 687 Romanian soldiers taken prisoner by the Germans during the war of 1914-18. In this small forest, we cross the Old Thur. An arm of this river is also called the canal of the 12 mills, of which only one is still in activity (produces electricity) in the forest of Niederhergheim near Colmar. Some buildings still exist in Meyenheim or Munwiller, while others have completely disappeared. The old Thur river crosses the Lauch river in Eguisheim, before Colmar.

Biological type plant. Built in 1997. Population connected: 48,000 inhabitant equivalent. Maximum urban flow: 25,000m3/day. Admitted flow treated in the storm basin in rainy weather: 820m3/hour. The sludge is dehydrated by a filter press and then composted. Saint Georges Farm This farm practices organic farming.

The Thur river is a 53.3 km long river of Alsace, which rises near Wildenstein and flows through a valley of the same name, passing through St Amarin, Thann, and then from Cernay, it flows into the plain towards Ensisheim to flow into the Ill. Return to the Ecomusée d'Alsace car park, following the site of the "Rodolphe" tile.

The Ecomusée d'Alsace is the largest open-air museum in France, located in Alsace between Colmar and Mulhouse. It resembles a traditional Alsatian village from the beginning of the 20th century and comprises more than 80 buildings on a surface of 97 hectares.
