René, 73 years old, fell into the wine business late in life, but with passion. He can talk about Cerdon and Bugey for hours, preferably sharing it in his cellar, rue de l'Église in Journans. And the tasting, as much as these sparkling stories, is worth the detour. This former leisure center manager first tried his hand at the vineyard as an amateur, helping out Jo and Gilles Ballet, winegrowers in Journans. Then, from vine stock to vine stock, renting a few pieces of land, buying the rest, he launched himself in 1988, gave up animation to become a winegrower. "I started producing sparkling wine in a 200-liter tank, ancestral method and since then, in good years, I turn around 15,000 bottles." René has 23 parcels, in 4 different communes, "which is a little less than 3 hectares. The most complicated thing is to find land. Winegrowers have to compete with building land, which is more profitable for a commune than grapes, because of the housing tax. And then you have to obtain the right to plant once you've found the spot. But there is no need to complain, the producers of cerdon have a loyal clientele: "It is practically sold in advance, it is difficult to satisfy the demand. The reason for such success? Beautiful, rosy, festive, the cerdon is sweet, sparkling with an ancestral method of wine making as a bonus for the purists. In short, it satisfies all palates, ours in any case. However, for the last two years, the climate and the badgers have taken their toll. "It's simple, I've reduced production by half. But René remains zen, a tour in his vineyards is enough to give him back his smile, hidden behind his moustache. A know-how acquired on the job and late in life "I learned from the elders, they taught me that the most natural practice possible, gives beautiful vines, but it is especially to be well in his environment. Gilles Ballet showed me how to prune and Father Magdeleine, from Gravelles, taught me how to make wine. In the end, René Brendel's epic is above all a philosophy of life. René Brendel does not have the official "organic" label, but since his beginnings in the furrows, he has the practices: "I have a lot of old vines where I can not be mechanized. His future? Soon, he could see himself as a tutor for young winegrowers, in order to hand over the reins smoothly, since his children are not at all in the vineyard business. "My concern is the transmission of what I have tried to build here. With three or four colleagues, we all started from scratch, and as we get older, we think about the future. We want to create a company with two young people. Two because then they could take turns a little, because the job is so thankless, despite the quality of life that there is around. Micro domaine of 1ha located on the slopes of Revermont in the Bugey region between Saint Martin du Mont, Tossiat and Journans. I make still wines that combine respect for the terroir with new ideas for adapting to climate change.Having been fascinated by nature and wine in general for many years, it was in 2020 that I decided to create my own estate by taking over small plots of vines on the hillsides of Tossiat, my native village. At the same time, I took a vocational baccalaureate by correspondence in "wine business management", while continuing to work as a nurse. I do my internships at the prestigious Domaine Michel in Clessé in the Maconnais region. Since then, I've continued to work my vines alone, with passion and enthusiasm. I don't use pesticides or chemical weedkillers. The estate has been in the process of obtaining organic farming certification since 2023. Gamay is the main grape variety grown on the estate, but for several years now I've also been planting Syrah, a grape variety found mainly in the South of France. The aim is to test this grape variety on our land and try to anticipate the global warming that seems to be accelerating in our region. I'm proud of my atypical and passionate career. Depuis l'époque romaine, Rignat fut une terre de vignoble, mis à mal par le phylloxéra au XIXe siècle, puis par le mildiou. Ses maisons sont caractéristiques des villages viticoles du Revermont (escalier de pierre et palier extérieurs abritant la cave).L'église du village est placée sous le vocable de Saint-Didier. Si sa nef est récente car reconstruite en 1858, le chœur est gothique et date du XVe siècle. On le doit au seigneur du Saix, dont les armoiries ""écartelé d'or et de gueules"" figurent sur la clé de voûte. Vestige d'une ancienne chapelle latérale, une Pietà ou Vierge de Pitié, datée du XVIe siècle. Cette statue en pierre est remarquable par l'expression de douleur qui se lit sur le visage de la Vierge. Présentée contre le mur nord de la nef, une pierre tombale du XVIIIe siècle rappelle qu'une dame du château fut ici enterrée : ""ICY GIT LE CORPS DE DAME VIRGINIE DE CHAVRY DAME DE CE LIEU ET DE REVONAT VEUVE DE MESSIRE FRANCOIS VIARD CHEVALIER SEIGNEUR DE PIMELLE D'ANCY-SERVEU ET D'AUTRES PLASSES DECEDE LE 5 ME 8 BRE 1712"". La mairie-école : il s'agit en réalité de l'ancienne cure vendue à la Révolution, dont l'origine remonte à 1664. Elle fut presque entièrement reconstruite au XIXe siècle, pour y abriter l'école au rez-de-chaussée et la mairie au premier étage. Rignat est garni d'un bon nombre de croix, au centre-village comme en périphérie, dont certaines se distinguent : la Croix de Moinans, ou Croix boutonnée, est la seule antérieure à la Révolution. Erigée sur la route de Meyriat, elle porte la date de 1787 sur son socle, mais une inscription sur le croisillon évoque 1776. Son fût est orné de petites protubérances qui lui valent son surnom. Peut-être la représentation des écots de l'arbre de la Vraie Croix ? Une légende dit qu'un habitant de Rignat aurait été guéri d'une maladie boutonneuse et aurait fait élever cette croix en action de grâce. Autre croix notable, la Croix du cri, placée sur le chemin conduisant au Pilon. Elle aurait été érigée à l'emplacement d'un cimetière où l'on enterrait les enfants mort-nés. Son nom rappellerait les cris de désespoir des parents. A voir également les lavoirs du XIXe siècle, dont l'un est précédé d'un abreuvoir.

La Reyssouze prend sa source à Journans. Plus longue rivière du département. Source de type vauclusien. Lavoir du XIXe siècle. Véritable lieu de fraîcheur à la belle saison, particulièrement apprécié.Journans, village du sud Revermont, offre plusieurs richesses : la qualité de son habitat groupé, la richesse de ses édifices religieux (la chapelle Saint-Valérien et l’église Saint-Vincent) et civils, sa tradition viticole et gastronomique (tête de veau). Beaucoup y viennent également, car s’y trouve la source karstique de la Reyssouze au pied du Revermont (massif du Jura) , la plus longue rivière du département qui, paisiblement, serpente dans le sud de la plaine de Bresse. Son cours est orienté d'abord vers le nord puis vers l'ouest. Elle traverse Bourg-en-Bresse et se jette dans la Saône en limite des communes de Reyssouze et Pont-de-Vaux après un parcours d'environ 75 km. La source de type vauclusien, se découvre après avoir suivi un petit chemin sur la droite après le restaurant local. Avant de couler jusqu’au proche lavoir aux deux charpentes jumelles (XIX e siècle), elle remplit un petit bassin circulaire. Lieu idéal pour sa fraîcheur et son charme, le site accueille de nombreux visiteurs. Jamais tarie, la source tient peut-être son secret de la légende. L'origine du mot Reyssouze est incertaine. Les premières mentions apparaissent en 954-986 (cartulaire de Saint-Vincent de Mâcon, n° 327) sous la forme in fluvio Resosia puis Resciosa, 996-1018 (ibid. n° 331) et aqua Roissosa (ibid. n° 331) au Xe siècle. Quant à la commune de Reyssouze, elle apparaît au Xe siècle, ad Riscosam (ibid. n° 493). Pour A.-M. Vurpa et C. Michel, la Reyssouze, qui a donné son nom au village (riscosam au Xe siècle puis Resosia en 954), peut faire penser au mot roman *riscia (qui serait le même nom que le gaulois rusca « écorce d'arbre » d'où vient le français « ruche »), nom qui a donné le français « rasse » (« corbeille ») utilisé en Bresse pour désigner certains talus : avec le suffixe latin -osa, la Reyssouze serait une rivière bordée de talus (d'après G. Taverdet) On retrouve les traces écrites de la Reyssouze à partir de 1272 dans des documents comptables concernant Pont de Vaux. Le nom évolue de Roissousa ou Royssousa à Reissousa (Comptes de la châtellenie de Pont-de-Vaux aux archives départementales de la Côte-d'Or et comptes des syndics de Pont-de-Vaux aux archives communales (1381-1418)[4]). Selon d'autres sources, le nom de la rivière viendrait de ru, qui signifie un ruisseau, une rivière[ La légende de la Reyssouze: Il y a fort longtemps, le diable rendit visite à une vieille femme de Journans, nommée Reyssouze. Le Malin, à son habitude, lui proposa d'exaucer un voeu en échange de son âme. La transaction aurait lieu à minuit et la femme pourrait faire, sa vie durant, ce que précisément elle ferait à cette heure-ci. La vieille, après mûre réflexion, accepta. Comme elle était cupide et avare, elle décida qu'à minuit, elle compterait ses quelques pièces d'or cachées au plus profond de sa masure. Ainsi, elle pourrait jusqu'à sa mort, compter de l'or et serait par conséquent, riche à jamais... Outre son avarice, la mégère était connue pour sa bêtise. Ainsi, pour être certaine de ne point manquer l'heure, elle décida de commencer à compter ses écus une heure à l'avance. Elle brasserait alors son trésor lorsque l'heure fatidique arriverait. Elle se mit à sa table et fit défiler ses pièces. Minuit approchait lorsqu'une envie la saisit. Hélas, elle eut beau se retenir, se tortiller tant et plus, se concentrer sur son pécule : rien n'y fit. Lorsque minuit arriva, elle dût laisser libre cours à la nature et les yeux exhorbités, elle s'épancha comme une fontaine... Le diable, pour une fois, tint parole ! Depuis cette nuit-là, la Reyssouze ne cessa plus de couler... elle coule encore...

Journans est situé sur le versant ouest de la chaîne du Revermont. Il présente toujours l’architecture traditionnelle liée aux villages de vignerons revermontois : maisons de pierre, avec perron abritant l'entrée de la cave voûtée.Si la culture de la vigne a aujourd'hui bien diminué, flâner dans les rues pittoresques de Journans permet toutefois de raviver un passé pas si lointain. L'occasion aussi de découvrir la source de la Reyssouze, l'emblématique rivière qui traverse la Bresse. Située au pied d'une pente boisée, la rivière naît d'une source karstique où elle remplit deux bassins avant de traverser un lavoir du XIXe siècle. L'eau, qui coule toute l'année, a donné naissance à une légende : une vieille femme nommée ""Reyssouze"" reçut un jour la visite du Diable. En échange de son âme, il lui promit de prolonger toute sa vie durant, l'acte qu'elle ferait lorsque sonnerait minuit. Pensant pouvoir ainsi s'enrichir facilement, elle voulut faire tomber sur la table les quelques pièces d'or qu'elle possédait au moment opportun, imaginant que l'or s'amoncellerait. Mais alors que les douze coups commençaient à retentir, elle dut assouvir un besoin naturel très pressant. Depuis, la source de la Reyssouze est intarissable ! Sur le haut du village, l’église paroissiale remonte au XVIIe siècle (1659-61) ; elle est placée sous le vocable de Saint-Vincent, patron des vignerons. Puis jugée trop petite, elle est partiellement reconstruite entre 1781 et 1792. Sa façade occidentale est assez sobre.

Young winemaker installed since 2010 with 15 years of experience in viticulture, I took over old plots with a heavy chemical past having known ploughing a long time ago.The plots are 2.5 ha in total, they are grassed, worked and harvested by hand. The grass is mowed from spring to harvest, then the sheep take over to maintain the rows and naturally fertilize the vines with their droppings. Our sheep are of the Thones, Martod and Soay breeds. We are currently replanting some plots and we have been able to start working the soil with our mare, Eline of Auxois breed. The vines are treated only with sulphur, copper and with nettle, horsetail and comfrey purin. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the grapes are picked in crates. We carry out all the operations of wine making (pressing, maturing in vats or in oak barrels and bottling by hand). We like healthy and natural products, so it is logical that our wines are the same.
