Hiking : At the foot of Roc d'Enfer

At the foot of the Roc d'Enfer mountain, in beautiful Graydon hamlet, come and taste our famous potato fritters and Savoyard specialities: tartiflette, cheese fondue, blueberry tart, ice cream, etc..We will also be offering a daily changing latte (as well as workers' meals). You can reach the restaurant/bar on foot from Saint Jean d'Aulps or by car from Essert-Romand by following the road. Once here, you have the choice of a table near the fireplace or, weather permitting, a table on the terrace in an authentic mountain setting. At the foot of the Roc d'Enfer mountains, this hollow coomb is a huge Alpine pasture, surrounded by stunning, steep cliffs. The Graydon chapel and surrounding chalets offer a genuine and peaceful glimpse of a mountain way of life.Located at 1340m and rising to 2243m, the Graydon meadows are easily accessible by car in summer from Essert-Romand. Graydon is the starting point for many walks including the Roc d'Enfer tour, a delightful route that winds through Alpine meadows, offering a glimpse of marmottes and deer. This circuit has superb panoramas of the Aravis mountains, the Roc d'Enfer and the Mt Blanc range. Visitors who wish to learn more about the chapel are invited to go in. It dates from the 19th century but was recently restored, providing a place to sit quietly and recharge your batteries. It hosts several services throughout the warmer months.

At the heart of the alpine Graydon pasture, under the hardened eye of the majestic roc d’enfer, you find the little Graydon chapel. It was built in 1859 and then entirely renovated in 2009The Graydon chapel constructed in 1859, allowed for the parishes of ST Jean d’Aulps and that of Essert Romand, separated a few years earlier to keep a certain link between them. It was in 1902 that the Swiss architect, Goss, constructed the entrance porche where two Capitals where added that came from the Aulps Abbey. The chapel in consecrated to the immaculate conception is today a place of celebrations and all through the summer season the parish celebrates a mass every Wednesday You can get there from Essert Romand or from the little hamlet called Valette at St Jean d’Aulps

Graydon dry toilets are located on the side of the footpaths sign, at the entrance of the village. Free access.
