Teulère lake and old tile factory

The fossiliferous natural site of Gan is a unique place of great geological and ecological value. Following the cessation of activity of the old Gan tile works in 1975, the marl extraction pit was gradually filled to form a pond. Over the years, nature has invaded the site and this site is now home to significant biodiversity. The aquatic zones, the vegetation of the banks, the woods, the meadows, are all natural environments.

The North Gate

The North Gate called "prison door" is the only vestige of the original enclosure. It was built in 1371 at the expense of Gaston III Fébus. Above the pointed arch, we see the traces of two coats of arms that have been destroyed. On the one on the right, you can make out the Béarnaise cows of the Béarn shield. This gate was the northern entrance to the city from Pau. It has been listed in the additional inventory of Historic Monuments. Gan is the only Bastide in the department to have kept an original door.

The house of Andoins called "of Jeanne d'Albret"

The house of Andoins called "Jeanne d'Albret" was built in 1593 by the merchant Guillaume d'Andoins. It has a tower, housing a stone spiral staircase, like the two other beautiful residences of Gan (Marca and Arrac). The date 1593 is also engraved inside the house, on the mantelpiece. Corisande d'Andoins, whose name the adjacent street bears, mistress of Henri IV, was not related to the Andoins of Gan. Born and died in Hagetmau, she never came to Gan. At the beginning of the 20th century, Gan's first postcards named it "Maison Jeanne d'Albret"... She died in 1572, long before the construction of this house!
