Depuis le 30 novembre 2000, le Val de Loire est inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, de Sully sur Loire dans le Loiret, jusqu'à Chalonnes sur Loire, soit 280 km.
Que ce soit pour le transport de marchandises, la pêche, ou encore du fait des crues qui rythment la vie des ligériens, la Loire a toujours eu un lien très fort avec ses habitants.
