Situated near the ancient Reims-Arras road, Lavergny probably dates back to Gallo-Roman times, in the first centuries AD.
Local custom has it that the family of Cilinie - the future Sainte Céline, mother of Saint Rémi, the man who baptised Clovis - came from Lavergny, as geographer Gérard Dorel rightly reminds us (in his Histoire des paysages de Laon et du Laonnois, 2021).
