The village sits on a promontory that abruptly interrupts the monotony of the cereal and forest plains of Loudunais. This is not without offering the site a charm reinforced by a traditional housing of the most original. The name comes from «Verruca» meaning «elevation». The village is first known for its castle of Purnon (private site). Listed as a Historic Monument, the castle has an exceptional structure and a windmill erected in 1900. Zoom on the "cosses", this Cretaceous limestone stone (90 million years old), rather hard, in yellow color which becomes grey with time. The fine and flat character of "cosses" has not prevented its use in large rural buildings. When it was not the stone of first construction, the cosse was used either to cap the walls, or use at the base, thus allowing better fight against humidity.
