Mazeuil which means «house» in Latin, is a village that was built in plain on the banks of the Dive and its tributary La Roche Bourreau around the church Saint-Hilaire. During the religious wars, the king’s brother, future Henry the 3rd, spent the night in the village before fighting the Protestant army of Coligny on October 3, 1569, in the plains around Moncontour. Mazeuil is one of Poitou’s most authentic villages. The rural heritage is at your fingertips: windmill, wash-house, stone bridge, fortified farm, traditional houses, wells, spring or walls of galuches... Here are memories of the peasant life of yesteryear.
