The name of Roiffé is issued from Roiffec, which comes from a Latin surname "Ruffius" from the 11th century. It is on this vast territory of the parish that Robert d'Arbrissel founded in 1101 the Abbey of Fontevraud. The town was sorely tried during the 100-year war.The village has a rich history thanks to Isaac de Razilly, a historical figure born at the Château des Eaux Melles, who became Governor of Acadia in the 17th century. In this town, there is one of the many legends concerning Sainte Radegonde: that of the cat hanged. The site of the Domaine de Roiffé which offers an 18-hole golf course, catering and accommodation replaces the former agricultural colony of Saint Hilaire.
