In the woods of Roches, the oaks replaced the beech trees, which gave their name to this village located on the edge of Touraine. The new meadow mentioned in the name «Niole» since the 11th century, informs about the importance of the forest in the Middle Ages. On the hill, the village keeps the remains of these hours of glories of the seventeenth, period that the cardinal of Richelieu has largely marked with his imprint. The origins of the name would be the contraction of the Gallic words «Novio» (new) and ialo (Glade). Zoom on the almond trees, this tree with its particularly elegant port has been present since at least the 16th century in the Loudunais Country. Its fruits are used in Poitou cuisine to make almond milk and delicious cakes. In these recent years, a major landscaping operation has planted hundreds of trees.
