Description

Situated in the municipalities of Courtenay and Arandon-Passins, the Serre ponds form a 42-hectare Sensitive Natural Area, comprising three ponds, woodland, reed beds, wet meadows and hedgerows.
The diversity of habitats is home to a particularly rich variety of flora and fauna, including several protected or endangered species. Reed beds, in particular, provide breeding grounds and refuge for many birds, amphibians, dragonflies and insects, whilst wooded areas and hedgerows play a vital role in maintaining ecological connectivity.
Preserving this biodiversity is one of the core objectives of this Sensitive Natural Area, which is managed by the Isère Department in partnership with the Balcons du Dauphiné Community of Communes.

As well as its ecological importance, the site is of great scenic value and offers a unique opportunity to explore nature. A footpath takes visitors around the ponds, allowing them to observe the changing landscapes and the species that find refuge there throughout the seasons. The ViaRhôna, which runs along the eastern edge of the site, provides easy access for visitors on foot or by bike and helps them to explore this unspoilt environment.

In order to reconcile public use with the protection of natural habitats, certain activities are permitted in designated areas. Fishing is therefore practised in several parts of the ponds, in accordance with specific regulations designed to preserve the ecological balance.

Because experiencing nature should be accessible to as many people as possible, the Serre ponds feature a path adapted for people with reduced mobility.
This trail provides easy access to several vantage points overlooking the ponds and their natural surroundings, thanks to specially adapted facilities. Everyone can therefore enjoy the site’s rich landscape, observe its biodiversity and experience nature in comfortable and safe conditions that promote inclusion.
