Corderie Palus

Description

Created in 1908, this workshop stretches over a distance of 280 m, with a work of art of wooden framework whose trusses are repeated with perfect symmetry every 5 m, giving the sensation of being in an endless mirror.

At first sight, the heart races! Here, everything is original: the clay floor, the stringing looms, the 1939 Japy engines, the lathes...

And the smell of retted fiber that grabs you as soon as you enter and never lets go.

You can still hear the old-timers singing along to the music of the "chantiers" as they walk their daily 15 to 20 km to make linen, jute, sisal and cotton ropes.
This rope factory, unique in its size and intact in its traditional know-how, is listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage site in France, and has been awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label.
