Nestled at an altitude of 1,200 meters, in the heart of a coniferous forest, Lac Vert is a natural gem of Haute-Savoie. This glacial lake, whose emerald-hued waters owe their color to the underwater vegetation, offers a breathtaking view of the Mont Blanc massif. Designated a natural site, it captivates visitors with its unspoiled beauty and tranquility.
Easily accessible, the site is ideal for a family stroll or a contemplative break. A trail circles the lake, running above it, allowing visitors to appreciate all its facets. Depending on the light and the seasons, the landscape changes and takes on unique colors.
Lac Vert is also steeped in local legends, which add to the magic of the place.
It is a must-see destination for lovers of nature, photography, and mountain serenity.
Fishing is permitted and subject to regulations.
It is strictly prohibited to:
- light fires,
- throw away or leave trash,
- camp or pitch a tent,
- engage in any noisy activity on the site,
- drive motor vehicles on or off the trails,
- to engage in any water sports, athletic, or recreational activities (slacklining, tumbling, model aircraft flying, etc.) on the site or in the lake,
- Access to the water is strictly prohibited, including for pets,
- Flying drones over the area from April 1 through October 31 and from December 1 through the last day of February of the following year

Access by bus: Line Y85, “Plaine-Joux” stop. Schedule available at borini.com/region/
Access by car: Follow the D43 toward “Plaine-Joux.” Park in the parking lot of the same name. The lake is accessible via a fairly easy 30-minute walk.
There is a gate between the Plaine-Joux parking lot and the Lac Vert parking lot.
☀️ In July and August, free shuttle buses run between the Plaine-Joux parking lot and Lac Vert. Outside of this period, and for people with limited mobility only, you can request the barrier code by presenting proof of eligibility at the Passy tourist office.
❄️ In winter:
Access is by foot or snowshoes only; parking at the Passy Plaine Joux parking lot is mandatory.

Yes. Pets must be kept on a leash (sled dogs are allowed in summer and winter) and are not allowed on the lake.
