Saint Barthélémy church

The village of Chauconin-Neufmontiers bore the full brunt of the fighting in September 1914.
The town was devastated and the church in Neufmontiers was transformed into a makeshift hospital during the battle, with the altar serving as an operating table. The church bears poignant inscriptions, written in pencil on the walls, testimonies of distress left by wounded French soldiers.
