Description

It was the old abbey church of Malmedy.
The cathedral was built in stones that were from the malmedy region, the "arkose" stones. It’s an inescapable place from the city architectural heritage with his Renaissance style and his latin cross shape. It was built between 1776 and 1784. Inside, his holy virgin marble altar is still ancestral, as well as his four confessionals and his truth chair. The glass windows are not ancestral because they have been destroyed during the bombing attacks in December 1944. The carillon was built in 1786 and is composed of 35 authentical bells that have been made by "Martin Legros".
It’s only in 1921 that the church acquired the title of cathedral while the "Eupen-Malmedy" diocese.
The cathedral holds as well the “Saint-Quirin” reliquary. His treasures are in the Malmundarium.
