Reinhardstein Castle
Credit : Judith Flandre 2020

Description

On the right, we can spot the Reinhardstein castle in the full nature.
It is the only castle of the region. The castle was built in the 14th century by Renaud de Waimes and was passed on from families to families before being abandoned. The stones that once were its pillars were looted. It’s in 1965 that Jean Ooverloop, a men passionate about history, finds the ruined castle. He then decided to rebuild the castle with the help of local’s craftsmen and with many volunteers. He tried to rebuild the castle like it was before but couldn’t do it due to missing constructions plans. Nevertheless, the result isn’t less accomplished.
It is classified as cultural heritage estate of Wallonia.
At the moment, guided tours are organised, and different medieval events take place over there.
In the high season, it is possible to drink and to eat at the entrance of the castle.
