Manufactured by: Ateliers Colette, Dolhain, 1914Origin: s.a. Traitex, VerviersVerviers Museum Collection: No. A93This machine was used for spinning prior to drying. The aim was to remove as much water as possible in order to shorten the cloth drying time. The pieces are placed in a perforated drumwhich turns on a vertical axis in order to remove the water via centrifugal force. This spin dryer was not suitable for delicate fabrics, too sensitive to folds. In such a case, a drum spinner was used. The industrial buildings on the same bank of the River Vesdre but on the other side of the bridge are the former Bouchoms factories. They were built in the 19th century on the foundations of previousfulleries called the "Pilate" fulleries, which dated back to the 17th century. At that time, the fulleries used the water from the River Vesdre to power the wheels that supplied the energy required for their processes. The current buildings underwent several modifications and were used for several different purposes: cloth making, dyeing, tanning, wool waste product treatment and warehousing before being repurposed as social housing with 30 apartments in what has today been rechristened "Résidence Guillaume Lekeu".
