The name Saucède appears to originate from the willow trees ("saules" in French) that grow along the banks of the Gave. In the past, basket weavers would come to gather these willows to make baskets.

Perfect for summer rides and ideal for those who need a dose of chlorophyll, this route, although short, is quite intense. The 24 km extend over the relief. It is true that the warm-up goes smoothly until the Saint-Blaise Hospital, but right after the real game will begin. We can recommend a visit to the magnificent Romanesque church. The Saint-Blaise Hospital is a stage on the Camino de Santiago, where many pilgrims pass every year. Surrounded by beauty, it is time to jump right into our circuit and tackle the first climb right away. Green is still the dominant colour among meadows and dense forests. The foliage brings freshness and you will find passages on a balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains.

Only the first two ascents require a little technique and effort but the rest of the loop is pure joy! The joy of gliding down beautiful rolling tracks and speeding through countrysides and little villages. This track follows a section of the GR78, the Piemont Way.

The gently rolling Geüs-d’Oloron hillsides have been sculpted by countless streams. Among the farmlands and forests, the heights unveil amazing vistas of the mountains.

This hike gives hikers a chance to get up high and enjoy a beautiful panorama of the Pyrenees. Once you've descended to the Laus stream, you'll find yourself in a completely different, very wet environment, where the most curious will discover the wealth of riparian environments.

Leaving Saint-Blaise Hospital, the Pyrenean Piedmont Trail enters the Basque part of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, more precisely on the roads and paths of Soule. The toponymy changes, the relief too. More marked, it forces the hiker to play jumping jacks for a transition stage to Mauléon-Licharre.

This lofty loop around the Auronce Valley is packed with magic. The trail goes high on top of the hills and takes you on pistes, tracks and paths. It runs through leafy countryside dotted with farms and meadows making for incredible views.

With its houses featuring red shutters, discoid steles in its cemetery, and place names resonating with Basque heritage, Esquiule is a Basque village in Bearn. From here begins a beautiful hike that leads to the summit of Cambeillou, where the panoramic view opens the doors to the Basque Country.

Superb loop around the Gave d'Oloron and its tributary the Joos. The very varied profile crosses hillsides with prominent elevations and large flats to make the big plate speak. The heritage is not in rest also with a monument classified with Unesco and one of the most beautiful village of France.

Founded in 1020, the church of St. Vincent is a former Benedictine abbey that still possess a part of its 12th century decoration : cornices and vaults. The church houses a religious rarity : a white marble sarcophagus dating from the 5th century, the origins of which are unknown.

Located between Navarrenx, the "fortified city" of Béarn des gaves and Oloron-Sainte-Marie, the commune of Lay-Lamidou has a picnic table. This one is located just next to the wash-house which is on the left, at the exit of the village in the direction of Ogenne. You can stop there for your lunch, snack or dinner while taking full advantage of the nature that surrounds it After the meal, you can take a walk around the village. During the walk you will see the Pyrenees mountain range on the horizon, the mule bridge and landscaped hedges made up of different species of trees according to the seasons. All tastes are in nature!

This concentration camp was one of the largest in France, between 1939 and 1944, more than 60,000 men, women and children were incarcerated : first republican Spanish refugees fleeing the victory of Franco, and the fighters belonging to the International Brigade, then at the time of the German occupation in June 1940, the "stateless" Germans and Austrians and French "politicians", communist militants, and foreign Jews, interned due to the anti-semitic laws of Vichy, gypsies, etc. Most of the 26,000 Jews in the camp were exterminated in Auschwitz. More than 1,000 of them lie in the camp's cemetery. National Memorial.

Lucq de Béarn is a typical Béarnaise village between Monein and Navarrenx. The estate is located in the heart of the Jurançon AOC region, surrounded by vine clad hillsides. The ‘Bois sacré’ is a nod to the village of Lucq de Béarn where the St.Martin family has lived for centuries. Today the fifth generation has taken over, producing their first wines from the estate in 2015. Inspired by peasant ancestry, the winemaking is based around observing natural conditions in order to produce authentic and balanced wines. Guided tours of the installations and a presentation of the sweet and dry wines is on offer for visitors.

Near Navarrenx, an imposing 16th century fortified town, the commune of Ogenne-Camptort offers four picnic areas scattered throughout the village. Each of them has a table and benches. All around you, trees, fields and greenery will bring a touch of zenitude to your meal break. Nearby, the orientation table offers three exceptional viewpoints: the surrounding villages, the magnificent green and blue river and the majestic Pyrenees on the horizon!

The orientation table is located in the village of Ogenne Camptort, about five kilometers from the fortified city of Navarrenx. It was set up by the Community of Communes following an architectural competition. Thanks to its seat with viewfinder, its bench and its table with markers of the peaks and localities, in good weather you can see the Pyrenees chain, the Rhune, the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and many others.

Only five kilometres from the walled city of Navarrenx, the small village of Gurs has two picnic areas. One is located in the public square in front of the town hall and the second is at the crossroads, rue des Pyrénées on the RD 836 / route de Dognen (RD 114). They allow you to make a friendly stopover with friends or family Not far away, you can visit the camp of Gurs, a former French internment camp created in March 1939. This great place steeped in history was one of the largest internment camps in the south of France. On the spot, the reception building, the national memorial, the memory trail and the cemetery are to be discovered.

The Domaine is in Lucq de Béarn, a Béarnaise village near Monein, in the heart of the Jurançon AOC region and near to the Barraquet farm. It stretches out over the hillsides of Lucq de Béarn, facing the Pyrénées and is still run by the Estoueigt family, who have been living in the farm and producing wine for generations. In the 1980’s Julien took over the farm and entirely restructured the vineyards. Always looking to improve, Julien is continually working on the Petits Mansengs (a grape variety) as well as the oak barrel ageing process. He also produces the wine plot by plot, thus letting the individual qualities of each section of land stand out. There are eight different wines in the range and guided tours are available in addition to tastings and of course direct sales.

Only two kilometres from the walled town of Navarrenx, the small village of Jasses has three picnic areas. They allow you to stop and enjoy both the village and the beautiful surrounding nature. Two tables await you at Place Tamon. Another table is located next to the river Layou and the old wash house and finally, the last one is along the path of Ogenne, in an undergrowth After the meal, you can head towards Navarrenx where there are several possibilities of visits and activities: the 16th century ramparts, military constructions, the discovery of the undergrowth, or rafting.... there is something for everyone.

The Shakespeare Bar Café is located in the center of the walled city of Navarrenx. This pretty lounge decorated in the English style is very pleasant to make a stop there. It proposes a large choice of cold or hot drinks and also delicacies. You can taste several teas, beers, fruit juices or coffee and hot chocolate. Among the delicacies, all kinds of homemade specialties are to be enjoyed: pastries, cakes of the day ? and also ice creams and milkshakes. Also on site, the Shakespeare store offers a large choice of homemade beers.

The tea room "L'enchanté" is located in the heart of the old town of Navarrenx. This lounge with a very friendly atmosphere offers more than 35 varieties of teas and herbal teas to enjoy in the tasting room. Also, a large choice of organic beers, fruit juices, iced infusions, coffee and hot chocolate and delicious ice creams and delicacies. You can enjoy all this inside or on the nice shaded terrace. Also on the premises, a very nice store and delicatessen with teas, herbal teas, accessories and wellness products and high quality chocolate boxes.

L'Estanquet is located in the heart of the fortified bastide town of Navarrenx, on the GR65 pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. L'Estanquet offers small-scale catering with non-stop service from June to September. Whatever the time of day, you'll find dishes of the day and elaborate platters, as well as a wide choice of burgers, paninis, sandwiches, grills, salads, tarts, crêpes and desserts, depending on what's on the market, what you fancy and what's in season....Cuisine made exclusively from fresh, local produce. Restaurant le Commerce is located in the heart of Navarrenx, a fortified bastide dating from the 16th century. From the large terrace, you can see the Place des Casernes, the town's main square, recently renovated and surrounded by the old barracks. The restaurant serves traditional cuisine based on local produce and specialties.

"Le P'tit Bistrot is located in the city center of the bastioned town of Navarrenx. Both a restaurant and a brasserie, it offers traditional cuisine that you can enjoy in one of the two rooms or on the large terrace located just outside. Once the meal is finished, you will stroll through the alleys of the city to see all the well-preserved military monuments such as the powder magazine, the arsenal, the military fountain, the old barracks ... and you will have access to the ramparts which offer a magnificent view of the Gave d'Oloron and the Pyrenees."

Over the years, Pyrénees Passion has specialised in welcoming fishing enthusiasts. Most of our clients are fishermen, which is a good opportunity to enjoy a pleasant stay near the Gave river and to share both technical and fun advice. Upon arrival, you will enjoy the following advantages: - you will be given all the documents relating to local fishing activity - you will get your fishing license and the tax stamps required to practise fishing, whatever the day and hour of arrival. The campsite manager will dedicate as much time as necessary to help you become familiar with the fishing area. A separate entrance leads to the bedrooms that differ in their colour harmonies and open to the Pyrenees. You can take away the foies gras and duck confits we/you have cooked (if you have participated in a fat duck cooking course).

Duck farming is the owners' main activity; fat duck specialties are prepared and sold on site... to be tasted or taken away!
