Charles de Gaulle was born at 9 rue Princesse in Lille, in the home of his maternal grandparents, on 22 November 1890. This house was the family reunion point throughout his childhood and youth. It was within these walls, in a family united by patriotic and religious values, that the character of the future President of the Fifth Republic was forged. In 2020, the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle underwent major renovation work. The aim of the work was to reinforce the structure of the house, but it also enabled it to be completely renovated and refurnished. Rooms that had fallen into oblivion have been restored and are being shown to the public for the first time. Listed as a historic monument and awarded the Maison des Illustres label, the house has been restored to look very much as the young Charles knew it. It is the only example in Lille of what a middle-class home looked like in the Belle Époque. In addition to visits to the historical part of the site, the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle also offers regular temporary exhibitions, lectures and educational workshops. In addition, there are two walking routes in 13 stages, marked by a nail in the ground bearing the general's effigy. The route can be started at any stage. There is no chronological order either. Maps of the route are available from the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle and the Lille Tourist Office, together with explanations, anecdotes and family memories of each stage. Its swimming pool, built between 1927 and 1932 by Lille architect Albert Baert, is a veritable Art Deco masterpiece that has been transformed into a museum, a fine example of rehabilitation. Under the shouts of the bathers of yesteryear, this vast 11,000 m2 space welcomes visitors and offers them an exceptional collection of arts applied to industry, including fabrics, decorative arts, sculptures, paintings and drawings. The museum's main room, the swimming pool, is lit by stained glass windows symbolising the rising and setting sun. Human-sized statues in single file adorn the pool, which is still filled with water, and surround the old changing rooms, bathrooms and shower cubicles. Large-scale temporary exhibitions are organised throughout the year. The museum is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to 6pm, Friday from 11am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm.Closed on Mondays and certain public holidays (01/01, 01/05, 14/07, 15/08, 01/11 and 25/12).The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm to 5.30pm.

Former municipal swimming pool built by Albert Baert between 1927 and 1932 in an Art Deco style, rehabilitated as a museum in 2001 and enlarged in 2018 by Jean-Paul Philippon, La Piscine exhibits the richness of its collections of paintings, sculptures and applied arts in this place which was considered for more than fifty years as "the most beautiful swimming pool in France". In 1931, the Musée des Beaux-Arts moved into a beautiful 1866 Roussel-Defontaine town house, representative of the architecture in vogue under Napoleon III. In 2009, following an exceptional donation of more than 600 works by Tourcoing-born Eugène Leroy, the museum became the MUba Eugène Leroy. It presents its collections through a constant dialogue between classical, modern and contemporary art. Paintings, drawings and sculptures come together to form a thematic trail that takes us face to face with Louis-Léopold Boilly, Rembrandt and Théodore Rombouts, the contemporaries Felten-Massinger, Antoine Petitprez and Philippe Cazal, and twentieth-century figures such as Martin Barré and Jean Fautrier. The permanent collections occupy half of the exhibition space. They are regularly renewed to reflect the major temporary exhibitions scheduled two or three times a year.

Parc Barbieux is recognised as one of the most beautiful urban parks in France. Born out of the abandonment of an underground canal project in the second half of the 19th century, Parc Barbieux is a 34-hectare English-style garden in a remarkable setting of greenery and natural diversity. With 60 different species of trees and a number of lakes and ponds, the park is a wonderful place for wildlife, leisure and relaxation, with a children's playground and a petanque area. Affectionately known as "Le Beau Jardin" by the people of Roubaix, this listed site has been awarded the "Remarkable Garden" label.

Located in the heart of Old Lille, the museum is housed in the hospital founded in 1237 by Countess Jeanne de Flandre, which did not close until 1939. The current buildings date from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. They consist of a paneled barrel-vaulted patients' ward, a chapel decorated with the coats of arms of the hospital's main benefactors, and the Augustinian sisters' community buildings arranged around two courtyards and a medicinal garden. Since 1962, they have been used as a showcase for paintings, tapestries, carved wood, furniture and earthenware from the region, evoking the interior of a 17th-century Flemish religious house.
