From the Anse de Sciotot to the Cap de Flamanville, with its small roads embedded in the rock, without forgetting the charm of the castle and the woods of Flamanville, this circuit will make you discover a concentrate of La Hague.

This stage covers 18 km. At the start of this section, you’ll walk along the dunes by the huge beach in Sciotot bay. The swell and the strong waves here make it a paradise for watersports enthusiasts. If you’d like to try surfing, head to Sciotot Surf School (open from 31 March to 30 November). The GR®223 then heads inland to the Château du Rozel before going back towards the sea. After walking past Camping Le Ranch, head uphill to reach Le Rozel headland. The dirt path on this section is steeper. At the top, admire the fantastic sea view with all the different shades of blue! Next, you’ll have a view of Surtainville beach. Before you get there, you’ll go past the archaeological site of Le Rozel, where several digs have been conducted over the last few years. This site of national interest tells the story of the Neanderthal people who lived here 80 000 years ago. After this short historical break, you’ll arrive in Surtainville. The path takes you through this little seaside town. On the way, you’ll see a pond and the ruins of Saint-Ergouêfle chapel. From Surtainville to Baubigny, the coastal path heads into the dunes for 3 km. Then from Baubigny to Hatainville, the path leads away from the sea, but don’t miss the view of Flamanville headland.

From the Stakes, you will quickly reach Sciotot. In front of you, a long beach of fine sand will lead you to Cap du Rozel from where you can admire a beautiful panorama of the surrounding beaches. The route then passes through the protected natural site of the Hatainville dunes. You will pass the Cap de Carteret which offers breathtaking panoramas before going back down to Barneville-Carteret and its marina.

The first part of this 22 km stage runs along the top of the dunes in Biville, looking out to sea. (If you prefer, you can leave the GR and walk along the beach on the coastal right-of-way). The sea makes way for this magnificent dune landscape, measuring more than 10 km in length and 500 m in width. A listed Natural Zone of Interest for Ecology, Flora and Fauna, this protected area is home to 183 identified plant and animal species. Please protect this fragile natural environment: no camping or campfires. The path then heads back to the sea as you arrive in Siouville-Hague, a top surfing town. Take the opportunity to try this activity at the Cotentin Surf Club. The GR then heads towards Dielette harbour, before turning left to go round the nuclear power station in Flamanville, built on the site of an old iron mine. In Flamanville, enjoy a stroll in the park of the château, which is accessible free of charge all year round. In the distance, you can see Flamanville headland. From the top of the cliffs, culminating at 89 m above sea level, there’s an incredible view of the huge beach in Sciotot. You’ll go past the buildings of an old French navy semaphore dating back to 1867. It has been restored and is now a restaurant and a stopover gîte that’s very popular with hikers. The finish is further down, on the fine sandy beach of Sciotot. This is a great spot to watch the surfers hitting the waves and to admire the sun setting over the sea.

The course is relatively easy, ideal for a family outing. The gradients, not very important for the region, are gentle and regular, the hedged farmland paths and the hamlets crossed are very picturesque. On the route, various monuments are to be contemplated: The church of Teurthéville-Hague, the church of Virandeville and the castle of Neretz (private). Various hamlets are crossed and in particular that of La Plume or Crasville, the oldest village of Teurtheville-Hague, picturesque with its houses with arched openings, its chamfered windows and its wash-house, the Baudron bridge.

The tour passes through unique moorland landscapes. It presents many technical difficulties and therefore requires a good command of mountain biking.

This 41-kilometre loop sometimes follows steep trails. This part of the peninsula, made of stones and heather, looks like the end of the world. Exceptional sites and breathtaking landscapes will accompany you throughout this circuit. Covering 18 km, this stage takes you to discover the dunes in Hatainville and Carteret headland. From Hatainville to Barneville-Carteret, a section of the path runs through the dune landscape. These impressive sand formations feel almost lunar. Be sure to follow the markers on logs in the sand and to close any gates after going through them. After a few kilometres in the dunes, you’ll reach the ruins of an old church. Next, follow the path to Carteret semaphore. The climb is quite steep but it’s well worth it. Here, you’ll have a lovely view of Carteret headland, its long stretches of sand and its rugged coastline. The path follows the Carteret cliffs, with a great view of the seaside resort. On this short section, the coastal path is more hilly, so you’ll need good pair of shoes as you walk along the cliffs. Before arriving at the marina, take a short break at La Potinière beach. You’ll love this picturesque setting with its colourful beach huts, a legacy of the old sea bathing tradition. Next, the GR®223 carries on towards the old lavoir (wash house) in the hamlet of Le Tôt. Then you’ll head back to the sea and the dunes all the way to Portbail. To reach this pretty village, cross the tidal inlet and the 13-arch bridge.

Lovers of solitude and old stones will be satisfied. An ideal path to walk in the springtime to listen to the birds singing or to observe the flowers that cover the edges of the paths...

The Espace Odyssélec at Flamanville features a scenography dedicated to electricity generation and nuclear energy. Through models and educational and entertaining activities, the Espace Odyssélec presents the operation of the power plant and the EPR reactor, the history of energy, the different modes of electricity production, renewable energies, environmental monitoring and nuclear professions. A belvedere offers a panoramic view of the production site.
