TOURNONZEN: Dive into the treasures of Tournon-d'agenais

When you enter the department by the D 656, you only see it. A wide and high bastide which presents its clear front perched on a pech. You climb up to it by a small road which, below the ramparts, winds up the hillside. You pass through the gate and discover the orderly streets, the Place des Cornières, the belfry and its moon clock, then the stairs that leave the town, the water tower, the former house of the Bishops of Agen, the municipal garden. There, an orientation table guides you through the green landscape of the Boudouyssou valley. On the other side, the gaze soars from the Verdus forest towards the Quercy Blanc where the cool shade of the trees alternates with dry and burning limestone plateaus.

This hike will make you discover the southern side of the bastide. On the way back, you will walk through the round tower, the public garden, the streets with half-timbered houses, the town hall square...

The bastide is almost always visible from all points on this route. You will first walk towards the Verdus forest and then towards the wood of the Tombs of the Giants. This route ends with a long straight line which allows you to appreciate the last climb to the medieval site. From the foot of this stronghold, you will reach the picturesque village of Bourlens, former residence of the bishops of Agen, through woods, vineyards and orchards, via the pech de Padès. After a long descent along shady paths lined with vineyards, you will reach the Dor valley. You will then walk due south, to go up gradually on the hillside of Castang. At a bend in the path, the northern ramparts of the bastide appear.

This very easy walk starts from the car park of the winery, crosses vineyards and enters the soothing shadows of the Verdus forest.

The paths, often lined with dry stone walls, guide this easy hike, benefiting from the shade of the oak trees of the Verdus forest.

This circuit first crosses a vineyard, then passes along a lake before going into the forest of Verdus on winding and stony paths. The village of Masquières, close to the department of Lot, occupies a large part of this forest. In the valleys of Lartel and Las Gonies, archaeological discoveries testify to the prehistoric occupation of the place. Nearby, dug into a hill, the cobbler's cave sheltered Neolithic burials. In the forest are the remains of a covered alley called the "Tomb of the Giants" (prehistoric megalith). The church of Saint-Vincent, built in 1240, is the former chapel of a priory attached to the abbey of Moissac

This hike crosses the plains of Toulouse, Vidalot or Galaux. Don't think that the relief is absent. These "plains" are in fact plateaus surrounding the narrow valley of the Boudouyssou where the small village of Courbiac nestles.

This small and very easy circuit takes some of the paths of the GR 652, the way to Santiago de Compostela, via Le Puy-en-Velay. It will delight families through the vineyards of the Tsar's wines and the typical wooded areas of the Quercy hillsides.

Once upon a time, in the beginning of last century, a little land in the Causse, which produced a quality wine, the Thézac-Perricard. Its aroma as subtle as spiced, charmed some of the greatest men: Napoléon the 3rd, Armand Fallières (a former President of the Republic) or the Czar Nicolas the 2nd, who loved it so much that he gave it his name. Today, some great food critics still think this wine is "pleasant and appealing". The wine-grower produces it and sells it, red or rosé.
