This short hike offers beautiful views of the Garonne and Lot valleys. The first two kilometers will be used as a warm-up to attack the only difficulty of the route, at Luisant.

Starting at the plain of the Garonne, this circuit climbs up the rocky escarpements which overlook the river. You will enjoy an uninterrupted view of the Gascogne hills to the Pays de Serres hillsides, or the tree-covered slopes of the Landes forest which overlooks the Lot Valley.

An invitation to flanerie around the charming village of Lafitte-sur-Lot, you'll take small paved roads for a digestive stroll in the land of black gold, the famous Agen Pruneau!

The paths and small roads cross the wide plain where the Garonne sometimes overflows. To link the turbulent river, dangerous for boats, to the peaceful canal, built for them.

The Lot Valley véloroute, or cycle path, runs alongside the river for 86km down carefully-marked, gently-undulating paths. From where the Lot meets the Garonne, cycle past the town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and right up to Bonaguil fortified château. This riverside circuit is perfect for cyclists who want to drink in the wonderful scenery along the way, with green expanses of countryside, orchards, fortified towns and farms.

From the Tonneins train station, soak up the unique atmosphere and discover the area around Le Mas d?Agenais. From the station forecourt, head towards the town center and follow the bicycle signs for the "Canal des 2 mers". At km 2.5, turn right. Follow "Circuit Rembrandt" along the loop. A painting by Rembrandt is something of a myth, something you'd expect to see in the Louvre, next to a work by Van Gogh or Picasso. But a Rembrandt in the little church of Le Mas-d'Agenais sounds more like a Gascon treat. While you're in the village, take a look at the work in the collegiate church of Saint-Vincent. Then join the Canal Latéral à la Garonne greenway, an invitation to another roaming adventure. At km 53, you leave the circuit to rejoin the connecting route to Tonneins.

This semi-urban circuit dominates the Garonne in its first part, before climbing the hill from which vast panoramas open up over the valleys of the Garonne and the Lot and the hillsides of the Marmandais and the Pays de Serres. Be very careful when crossing the D 911 and D 813.

A former barn with its outbuildings, the gîte de Garde-Pile is the work of an architect in love with old stones steeped in history. Volume, space and softness are offered to you for a stay or for a stopover. Ideal for large families or groups of friends, the gîte de Garde-Pile can be combined with a second gîte in the "Seventies" style (12 people). Entirely fenced (with alarm), the swimming pool area, common to both gîtes, with its summer kitchen fitted out in the old bread oven, will refresh your summer afternoons. The history of Clairac is inseparable from that of its Benedictine abbey, which was internationally renowned in the Middle Ages. The abbey, as well as the village that was built around its walls, reached its peak in the 12th and 13th centuries. At that time there were 120 monks who worked in the fields as well as copying manuscripts. The abbot of Clairac was also the lord of the village and commanded two bastides, five priories and about fifty parishes. The monks also owned two mills on the Lot. The income generated by the abbey was considerable at the time. But the most important inheritance was unexpected: the plum tree from Damascus, brought back from the Crusades, was in fact "entered", i.e. grafted, by them for the first time. They also discovered the process of sun-drying, inventing at once the "ente" plum and the Agen plum!

Formerly a graphic designer, three years ago I took a vocational training course in Bayonne to become a chocolate confectioner. I then joined the family farm to develop the various fruits. The range of jams and confectionery (caramels, fruit jellies, syrups, nectars) is quite varied, with both traditional and unusual recipes featuring blends of fruit, spices and aromatic herbs. My father, who is very involved in my project, is developing a "citrus grove" so that I can offer rare citrus jams such as citron or Buddha's hand. I make everything in my laboratory in the traditional way, in small quantities so as to control quality. The vast majority of the fruit is produced in the Lot-et-Garonne region, although for some recipes I use exotic ingredients such as vanilla.
