The Tour de Rance estate was part of the temporal domain of the Abbey of Clairac, and was alienated from it until 1574, when Henri d'Angoulême took over the Abbey. The estate took its name when Guillaume de Ranse, esquire, lord of Plaisance and secretary to Henri de Navarre, then advisor to King Henri IV, acquired it.
The dwelling was rebuilt in the 17th century, at the same time as the dovecote. Made of brick and plaster, it is listed as a historic monument.
