You have to go up to better perceive the rugged environment of the foothills of the Lot and look for the hidden treasures in the landscape: bastides, dovecotes, orchards, wooded pechs...

Once upon a time, at the beginning of the 20th century, on the borders of the Lot-et-Garonne, a small causse terroir produced a wine of very high quality, "Le Vin de Thézac-Perricard". The bouquet of this wine, both fine and full-bodied, seduced the most illustrious connoisseurs such as Napoleon III and President Fallières. The latter, a fervent defender of regional gastronomy, did not hesitate to offer it to his guests, including Tsar Nicolas II of Russia. Delighted, he immediately placed an important order. At the time, this order resounded in all the houses of the country to the point that the wine of Thézac-Perricard became over the years, the wine that the Tsar had chosen, the wine that the Tsar wanted... hence the name of... HENCE THE NAME "TSAR'S WINE".

Saint-Georges is surrounded by many hills or pechs, sometimes elongated, sometimes rounded or pointed. You can see Fumel, Mosempron-Libos, Monségur, Rouet, Trentels, Cazideroque, Padès, l'Estelle or Perricard, find them in the landscape! Around the 14th century, two mills were built on the stream of Bellague before its confluence with the Lot. They show a typical example of the economic activities carried out in Lot-et-Garonne at that time. Many villages such as Saint-Georges were equipped with mills or forges to exploit the natural resources offered by the valley. The economy of this small village is nowadays turned towards the culture of the prune d'ente and tourism.

From the large cultivated plateau of Saint-Georges, from the pechs of Estelle or Padès, surrounding Bourlens, the gaze goes very far, towards the valley of the Lot or the hillsides surrounding the bastide of Tournon-d'Agenais.

Starting at the plain of the Garonne, this circuit climbs up the rocky escarpements which overlook the river. You will enjoy an uninterrupted view of the Gascogne hills to the Pays de Serres hillsides, or the tree-covered slopes of the Landes forest which overlooks the Lot Valley.

Built on a long and narrow hill, the village of Monségur offers many beautiful views over the valley of the river Lot and the hillsides in the Haut-Agenais, where you will see, among other things, the bastide of Monflanquin.

Starting from Libos, this walk crosses the Foulon park, uses the new Voie Verte du Fumélois, to the jetty on the Lot and the old station in Fumel, before crossing the river and following its green banks. Recommended extension to the Château de Saint-Vite.

The hamlet of Lustrac consists of a mill, inseparable from the castle built around 1296 by Foulques de Lustrac, lord of the place. The current building, built on the right bank of the Lot at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century, was used for grinding grain until its conversion in 1930 into a hydroelectric power station. Transformed into a dwelling. Mérimée base.

On the heights of the Haut-Agenais, the farm of Le Plessis invites you to discover its beautifull views on the surroungings, its orchards and its ovens, during an authentic, friendly and culinary event, with a family, installed for three generations. Here production meets passion and tradition! Sale of prunes, prune creams, prune vinegar, aperitifs, fruit juices and jams, but also homemade ice cream, to be tasted during a visit at the farm or a stopover on the France Passion motorhome area. .

The 12th century roman church is typical of this region. Listed historical monument, the building has a tabernacle overcome by a Christ's statue. This tabernacle is surrounded by two other statues representing Saint-Michel and Joan of Arc. Indeed, during the 19th century, Joan of Arc was canonised and became a very popular character in this religious time imagery. Saint-Gilles church also has several themed capital with rich sceneries. You can see on one of these capital a food chain representation: a lion biting a bird's tail, this bird itselft devouring a fish. The eleventh capital is decorated with a usual situation. A couple is on the portal, Adam and Eve probably. At their feet, many animals: lions, fish, bulls and snakes.

The plum orchards of Ente, symbol of this village classified as a "Remarkable Site of Taste", are very present in this pretty corner of the Lot-et-Garonne. The plum farms of Monredon and Le Plessis will make you discover the star product of the department, the famous "Pruneau d'Agen".
