Camping du Parc Saint Vincent: Levignac-de-Guyenne Adventures

This easy loop takes place on wide dirt or stony paths with views over the Dropt valley and the Duras hill from which the castle and the clock tower emerge.

Its slender bell tower is a landmark for all the surroundings. Lévignac-de-Guyenne dominates the Dropt valley, about twenty kilometres north of Marmande. This ancient English bastide, founded in 1305, bears a name that would testify to the presence of vines, a credible assertion due to its proximity to the vineyards of Bordeaux and the Côtes de Duras. Nowadays, the hillsides are mostly covered with plum orchards, large woods, such as the one at Chavaneau, and cereal crops, which are crossed by the route. The bastide of Lévignac, or new town, has an ovoid shape with a central square. The present-day habitat bears witness to the different historical stages, with the 14th-century remnant houses, the farms dating from the Ancien Régime, the 19th-century bourgeois houses and the contemporary constructions.

From this promontory village on the valley and hills of the Duras region, you will discover the history of this territory, through a landscape that reveals the traditional agricultural productions, orchards of plum trees, vineyards, tobacco and irrigated crops.

This long hike passes through apple orchards, vast expanses of cereal fields, woods with a few pigeon holes and plum orchards.

From the small city of character you will survey the surrounding countryside to discover all along the route viewpoints, heritage, orchards and a return to the village along the Dropt.

Leaving from Allemans-du-Dropt, Loop 2 is linked to the Vallée du Dropt cycle route, allowing you to discover the villages and architectural and natural heritage on the hillsides overlooking the area. The route is signposted in both directions, allowing you to set off from any of the villages. The route is on roads only. Enjoy the ride!

The route starts from the parking lot at Place de la Mairie in Allemans-du-Dropt. You can also join the route from Moustier, La Sauvetat-du-Dropt, Roumagne or Puysserampion.

A plaque commemorates the presence of Marguerite Duras in this village nestled in the heart of the Pays de Duras, where vines and woods share the space.

The views follow one another on this route - the Dropt valley, the hills of the Pays de Duras, from Baleyssagues to Loubès-Bernac and Soumensac but also those of St-Vivien-de-Monségur. At the start and finish of this loop, be careful on the D303, even if it is not very busy.

The Church of Monteton has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1926 The apse is preceded by a semicircular vaulted choir bay. The nave has four bays covered with a broken barrel vault, and is reinforced by double brackets. The builders placed the buttresses inside the nave and connected them by arches. Edifice built on an eminence according to a U-shaped plan. A main building consisting of a central body with a passage to the inner courtyard is flanked by two residential wings. The building is built on a basement level with a kitchen, bakery and storerooms. The outbuildings are built against a surrounding wall to the north. This 17th century castle was abandoned during the 20th century, and the east wing was used as a stone quarry. The central body retains traces of drawbridges and arrow loopholes, marks of nobility and defensive necessity for Catholics who remained Protestant after 1685. Today it is a privately owned hostel and accommodation.

The Moulin de Cocussotte is a site listed in the parks and gardens of France, laid out on an island with basins, water circuits, waterfalls and pontoon framing a water mill with a moving water wheel, landscaped banks, mill spoiler.
