Discover Suce-sur-erdre from Camping Kernest

The beginning of the hike starts at the parking of the train station. This trail has several variants that allows you to go on real steep trails like a maze with parallel roads. It has a distinguished atmosphere, secret and mesmerising. When you come back, go down to the port where you will find our restaurants and for those who love nature, make a stop to the “Ganuchaud” botanic garden which is located at the end of “la rue d’Angleterre”. Also, pass by “La Cour Gaillard” which is in “La Grand-Rue” and was edified by protestants at the Edit of Nantes. This site stays, until 1685, an important protestant place.

Prepare yourself for a hike of 2 hours long with 500 metres along the water. You will admire the vast expanse of the Plains of Mazerolles with 3 kilometres long and 1 kilometre large. This site is ideal for kids. It is also possible to go fishing for people with reduced mobility. Or you can have a picnic or some sport. At the end of this loop, you will see the Castle of La Baraudière surrounded by its stone walls from the 19th century and not far from there the Castle of Bois Mellet. A plate has been placed at the entry and it is written “qui a accueilli, cache et protégé les résistants de la région” which means “that has hosted, hided and protected the resistants of the region”.

Discover the Plains of Mazerolles, a vast expanse of water of 3 kilometres long and 1 kilometre large. With a little bit of patience, you may see herons on the shores and a lot of other birds during migration season. Labelled refuge of the French League for the Protection of Birds (LPO), the site has also three beehives financed by the collectivity and an orchard. A themed path has also been created by the Municipality. The trail begins on the edges of the river Erdre to go through the undergrowth alleys, steep paths and goes through adorable little villages. It is possible to join the port of Sucé-sur-Erdre if you take the Atlantic Coast Route, or from the city-centre for this hike. The departure point is from the nautical base of Mazerolles.

Beginning at the city center, this trail guides you to the higher ground called the “Mont Juillet”. At the pond of “La Martellière”, you will find tables and a playground.

The Circuit of Vive-Eve Discover the atmosphere of the Nantes-Brest Canal, its towpath converted for different types of hiking, its lock-houses, water tourism, fishing … On this itinerary, taken by cyclists on the Atlantic Coast Route and pilgrims of Saint Jacques of Compostelle, the towpath will guide you to the lock house of La Tindière and its gourmet terrace. You can park at the Vive-Eve bridge where you will have an information sign on the history of the Canal and picnic tables. From this parking it is also possible to extend your walk the other way to the lock house of Quihex. You will see a remarkable view of the plains of La Poupinière and the Valley of the Erdre

A walking trail to discover the paths of the countryside. It begins in the city center, at the parking lot of the sports complex of Fernant Sastre, do not miss the visible heritage such as the church, the old town, the windmill…  It is possible to prolong this walk towards the port La Rivière, where you can see the castle of the Pont Hus then follow the path to get to a point of view on the river L’Erdre.  

Beginning at the sports complex, this trail will take you north of the town. You will see the castle du Pont Hus and its famous stud farm but also the “logis du Breuil”, a renovated fort.

This pleasant path of 11 km will guide you along le Cens and le Gesvres through Vigneux-de-Bretagne where these two rivers take source.

For its 23rd edition, the Erdre & Gesvres Children’s Book Fair is putting science in the spotlight in partnership with Ricochet Publishing. With something for all ages, the programme features picture books, exhibitions, workshops and performances. Every 2ᵉ Wednesday afternoon of the month, the teenagers (aged 11-14) get together to prepare a recipe for a snack, then enjoy it. Board games and the PS4 remain available to extend the moment. In a spirit of intergenerational cooperation, adults interested in cooking can also take part and share their skills. Free - registration required.

Every three months, the café opens its doors on a Sunday for a session of board games. There will be lots of different games, and the idea is that everyone should bring their own, so we'll have a stock in advance. Come along with friends, family, neighbours and your good humour!

Buildings from the former 17th century Presbytery were restored and transformed into the town hall in 2007 and "Les Digitales" Art Centre in 2011. The Art Centre is a place for activities and exhibits. It displays different models of farming machinery from the collection of Mr Sevestre, a passionate farmer from Caden, and holds a museum presenting farming activities from yesterday and today with interviews from local farmers.

Born from the whims of the relief and the fervour of an Abbot, it makes its appearance at the bend in the path that climbs to the Chapelle Largeau. It proudly dominates this valley, at the bottom of which, the river Ouin, runs alongside, meanders and separates, sometimes the Maine et Loire, the Vendée or the Deux Sèvres. It was restored in the 18th century by the rector of Caden, Jean-Louis de la Houssaye. The date "1756" is written over the side door. It is one of the six friar chapels of Caden. The inside is decorated with 21th century frescos painted by a local artist representing landscapes of the surrounding countryside.

The "Régalante", the Nantes-Brest canal and the "Vélodyssée" cycle routes are just a short pedal ride from the gîte. The kitchen has all the crockery and equipment you need to cook your meals: microwave, oven, electric hob, fridge-freezer, etc. You can relax in the lounge area, which has Wi-Fi, or on the sunny terrace overlooking the river. The tea corner is equipped with a small fridge, a kettle and a coffee machine, as well as a table and two chairs. You can enjoy the large private terrace, accessible from the bedroom, equipped with two chairs, a table and two garden armchairs, with a view of the Erdre. Two kayaks or a canoe are available under your own responsibility, so you can explore every corner of the Erdre and discover the flora and fauna of "the most beautiful river in France", as François I called it. If you're a keen cyclist, you'll find the Sucé sur Erdre tourist office at the port, where you can hire cycles. The signposted cycle routes "Canal de Nantes à Brest, la Vélodyssée and la Régalante" await you in the centre of the village. There is a secure parking area for bikes, and patches, pumps and tools are available if you need them. Pets are not allowed. There is free parking in the cul-de-sac, and professionals with equipment in their car can bring it into the enclosed courtyard (video-surveillance).
