You set off from Pontenx-les-Forges, a charming village of garluche (rust-colored stone) buildings. You head for Lüe, a small village with a rich historical heritage. You then head through the forest along the old railroad line to the village of Labouheyre. As you enter Labouheyre, you pass the Maison de la Photographie des Landes, the birthplace of Felix Arnaudin. Leaving Labouheyre, the voie verte runs deep into the forest. You arrive at Commensacq. The voie verte returns to the heart of the Landes forest until you reach the Eiffel bridge. A few kilometers further on, you arrive at the Ecomusée de Marquèze train station before reaching the town of Sabres. There are no technical difficulties to report. This route, built on the right-of-way of an old railroad line, has a very slight gradient. The route is ideal for families.

It is likely to be home to plant species such as the swamp fern, or the St. John's wort, a herbaceous plant with yellow flowers and downy leaves. The gallery forest is an ambivalent ecological corridor (a place where species can move between several living areas), as it is both forested and aquatic.

To the south of the Courant de Contis lies the Plaine de Pigeon. It is a vestige of the wetlands drained at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. Managed by the ACCA of Lit et Mixe and the departmental hunting federation, this site is home to a wealth of biodiversity unique in the Landes. This breeding ground for rare species is home to several species of orchids, as well as the marsh stellar, a rare herbaceous plant in the Landes massif.

The Mahourat marsh, like the Pigeon plain, is part of a type 1 Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF). This is a scientific tool for making an inventory of ecologically sensitive areas. This marsh is listed as a wintering and migratory stopover site for birds. Several other species such as the European cistude (a turtle) and the otter have also taken up residence here.

Etang du Bourg Vieux trail is marked with numbered posts and provides a walk along the ancient site of Bias village and across the cultivated forest.

The 14th century church, built in local garluche (iron silicate) by the commanders of Malta, is listed as a Historic Monument. The central nave (not demolished during the wars of religion), the garluche stone choir, the large pillars, the vaults and ribs, form a well-balanced architectural ensemble. The backgammon coming from Bias by the coastal road passed through Mezos and could thus reach Dax. In the interior is a reproduction of the Prague Child Jesus, which was donated by Poles at the end of the 20th century.

The church of Saint Michael is the 3rd church in Bias and dates from 1906. The two previous ones have suffered the advance of sands and waters. Inside there is a processional cross from the 15th century, made of oak. Behind the church is the St. Michael's Fountain, which was used to treat stomach, kidney and skin ailments.

At the end of the 1940s, gigantic fires ravaged the Landes, causing a major ecological disaster but also many deaths. To combat this scourge, firebreaks were designed to limit the impact of these blazes, but also to enable the fire brigade to intervene quickly.

As you walk along the paths, you may come across these strangely shaped pines, bent with an invisible weight and carrying a terrible burden. The wind, laden with sea spray, is the culprit of these deformations. These pines must have been subjected to the fury of the gusts of wind from the open sea for years. Some would say that it's a good thing: these improbable shapes often allow them to resist the harshest of storms!

The "lette grise" is a Gascon term designating a depressed area located behind the dune belt, which often shelters a very diversified vegetation and fauna. Further south, towards Tarnos, you will find the Corbeille d'Or des Sables, a plant that grows only sparingly in this unique region of the world. At Cap de l'Homy, it is possible to come across the Cytinelle, a brightly coloured plant which is the only representative of the cytinus genus in France.
