This route is temporarily closed. No one would suspect that under the transparent waters of the Hostens Lake was one of the largest deposits of lignite in the early 1930s. This itinerary allows you to approach the secret and magical environment of the "lagoons", small circular bodies of water of glacial origin. Around the Gât Mort, the forest opens up onto an area of open moorland vast enough to evoke the landscapes of centuries past. The nearby water table allows some of these lagoons to maintain a small water level throughout the year, but not exceeding one metre. The route, marked out by a few observatories, allows an overall reading of the vegetation.

The itinerary goes to meet the natural heritage of the Haute Lande and its natural wealth. This loop around the lake will allow you to discover the magnificent 350-hectare Dupertout estate. The forest adjacent to the 6-hectare lake is home to a wide variety of birds, fauna and flora. This richness requires special attention from hikers to ensure its preservation. Have a nice walk! A young river from a geological point of view, the Leyre carries sand which accumulates in the meanders. Canoeing offers a chance to discover this rich and fragile natural area. Here we propose a route from Saugnacq-et-Muret to Salles via Belin-Beliet. The regulation imposes to all the practitioners to know how to swim before leaving to navigate in canoe. Belhade ... Where does this name come from? From the wide valley (from the Gascon "Vath lada") on which the castle of Belhade was built in the 13th century, or from a beautiful fairy (from the Gascon "bel hade") who lived there. This circuit is located around Saint-Symphorien where François Mauriac's parents had a holiday chalet built. The young Mauriac, until his teenage years, travelled through these places, which remain unchanged today, and drew much of his inspiration from them.

The path follows a section of the Bazas-Mios cycle track, located on the former line of the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer Economiques. Le Barp is located on the Grandes Landes road linking Bordeaux to Spain. Itinerary of the King's Post Office network in the 16th century and on the route of the Roman road known as "Camin Roumieu" which designated the path in patois and which linked Bordeaux to Dax. A stopover on the road to Santiago de Compostela since the 11th century, the town has developed around the Relais Hospitalier and the Priory.

The Domaine Départemental de Sports et de Loisirs Gérard Lagors in Hostens is a 600-hectare estate equipped for exploration of the natural milieu and for a range of outdoor leisure activities (including mountain biking, canoeing, archery, climbing, tennis and bathing). The beach is supervised from June to September. The estate also offers visitors a chance to try their hand at its “Escalad’arbres” – a mixed, removable forest trail made up of ropes and cables. Qualified supervision from April to October.

This very simple Gothic chapel, dedicated to Saint Catherine, is located in the Rétis district of Hostens, on one of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. The shape of the façade is that of a simple bell-tower-wall above which the old bell was housed, protected by a double wooden bellringer's shelter.

It's a ?cabin? that blends perfectly into the forest environment, to the point of being practically invisible. After watching an educational film and chatting with a ?Paloumayre?, you visit the various strategic areas of the palombière. The "Oueyte" is explained to you, so you can spy on the arrival of the flights, the decoys, the ground, and so on. Following the takeover of the churches by the communes, the church of Saint-Jean was abandoned and destroyed. The one that stands today, rather simple and similar to the church of Cabanac, dates from 1879 but keeps its bell, a painting and an original peg.

The church of the former commune of Biganon, now part of Moustey, was built in the 11th century of small rubble stone. Its chevet, composed of two absidioles clearly separated from the central apse, is unique in the Haute-Lande region. An un-vaulted transept and single nave complete the Romanesque edifice, while the present wall-belfry only dates from the 15th century. Wall paintings dating from the 14th to 17th centuries were discovered in 1982 in the apse and south absidiole. Listed on the I.S.M.H. by decree of January 17, 1997.

The water from La Fontaine Saint-Clair, near the church of Saint-Pierre de Mons, is known to cure eye diseases.

Mons and its church occupy a special place in the region, located on an ancient north-south road leading to Spain (ancient road then pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela). Ancient texts tell us that Roland de Roncesvalles' companions were buried there. A priory was installed there which was reformed in 1497. He controlled a large part of the Middle Leyre and its catchment area as far as Hostens. Texts dating from the end of the 15th century (royalties) give us information about their homes and what they cultivated. The 11th century church, originally with its defensive tower, dates from the late 15th century and reflects the defensive concerns raised by the 100-year war.

The original construction dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries, with a semicircular apse, timber-framed nave, wall-belfry and western portal. In the 15th and 16th centuries, a rib-vaulted chapel was built to the north, followed by a side aisle. At the same time, the apse was rib-vaulted and thickly buttressed, allowing large flamboyantly railed openings to be made in its walls. In 1998, soundings in the north chapel revealed the presence of painted decoration, which was restored in April 1999.

At the entrance to the heart of the Bassin d'Arcachon, La Tonnelle bar-restaurant features a terrace shaded by 6 plane trees over a hundred years old, and offers traditional, characterful cuisine based on fresh, local produce, much of it homemade. An old small farm in the Landes region that we're renovating. You will find a permaculture garden and some seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as herbal teas.
