Since the antiquity, men were looking for a faster and less dangerous way to connect these two shores of France. This is what the Canal du Midi, then the Canal de Garonne that you follow here, allowed. The Balades à Roulettes® (BR®) are short, quiet walks, with a stroller or a small bicycle, or adapted for people with reduced mobility (in a wheelchair), proposed by the French Federation of Randonnée of the Gironde.

Romanesque church of the 17th century restored in 1676. A marble plaque indicates that the church was entirely burnt by lightning on July 5, 1883 and rebuilt in 1884 by the mayor of the time. Outside, calcined stones are still visible. Inside there is a fresco painting of Saint Michael dating from the 19th century Following the work in 1884, the interior of the church was decorated with a painting of mantling and two frescoes depicting the archangels Michael and Gabriel.

Church with two naves built on a shell bank in the 12th century. On two pillars, unfinished twisted columns, very beautiful choir inclined to the south with arcatures and curious capitals. It is assumed that under the church there would be a vault or a crypt. The chevet of the church is interesting because of its high Romanesque structure, raised almost on a hill above the Bassanne, it dominates a forest landscape from its full height.

The village is built on the banks of the river Bassane. It includes many listed sites: Saint-Antoine church of the XIVth century retouched on several occasions, former monastery of the Antonins, former water mill of the XIIIth century, bridge of the Bassanne, house with buttresses.

The church of Saint-Martin-de-Montphélix, in Romanesque style, is the oldest building in Pondaurat. It dates from the 11th century and was partly rebuilt in the 17th century. The church is mentioned in the cartulary of La Réole in 1097, when the two brothers of Loubenx, leaving for the Crusade, gave half of their income to Auger de Landerron, prior of the monastery of La Réole. The walls and apse are from the 11th century; the historiated Romanesque gate, to the south, is from the 12th century.

The former Antonine convent is a rare vestige that has remained in its entirety. It consists first of all of a 13th century dam bridge showing the hydraulic strategies learned for the time (a remarkable work and the only one still standing), then the mill flanking the dam bridge, the convent (former presbytery) including lodgings, accommodation and finally the chapel that became the parish church. Dating on the oak frames has confirmed the following chronology: - a vestige in one of the transept arms from the end of the 13th century - a large part over two periods at the beginning of the 15th century and then at the end of the 16th century - finally some elements of door and gallery of the 17th century. The convent volume with a Greek cross and the medicinal room has (re)become, out of necessity and because the structure allowed it, a Latin cross volume.

A small town of about a thousand inhabitants, Castets-et-Castillon is located at the mouth of the Garonne River and the Canal des deux mers, linking the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. 193 km long, the canal has 53 locks, 3 of which are in Castets-et-Castillon, and its banks, formerly towpaths, have been laid out as a greenway allowing the most daring cyclists to reach the Thau lagoon (Sète) in a few days... The small port of Castets-et-Castillon and Bruno, its captain, welcome many boats and other barges, passing through or all year round. The village is rich in history, with the Château du Hamel, classified as a Historic Monument, its two churches Saint Louis and Saint Romain and its Eiffel bridge dating from 1915.

Romanesque church of the 11th, 12th and 15th century, you have to go down five steps to get in. The nave leads to a Romanesque choir which, due to its strangulation, allows two side altars to be added. The north aisle was added in the 15th century to accommodate an increase in population after the Hundred Years' War The arched bell tower houses one of the oldest bells in the country, dated 1522. The restored church was inaugurated in 1989. Its 12th-century portal consists of three vaults surrounding the tympanum. The latter is adorned with a lintel with Carolingian-inspired decoration, made of braids forming a series of loops. The fresco of the Baptism of Christ is from the 18th century.

This mill belonged to the monks of the Rivet Abbey, located in a commune not far from Bieujac. The monks made flour for their bread. This water mill ceased to operate in April 1969.

The wash-house was an important place of sociability in small towns until the 20th century. To do the laundry, the linen is first boiled in cauldrons before being brought in baskets and wheelbarrows to the washerwomen. The washerwomen rinse it and beat it with beaters, kneeling on the shale slabs which are at the water's edge.
