You will appreciate the Port Ostréicole of Arès and its string of blue, yellow and green oyster huts. Everyone in his own way spends a pleasant moment there. Gastronomes, you will enjoy yourself in one of the restaurants, installed on the port for the summer. If you prefer to taste oysters and other shellfish from the Bay of Arcachon, stop for a few moments in one of the huts that offer delicious seafood platters. The Balades à Roulettes® (BR®) are short, quiet walks, with a stroller or a small bicycle, or adapted for people with reduced mobility (in a wheelchair), proposed by the French Federation of Hiking of the Gironde.

This walk allows you to discover one of the most important sites of Arès. Through this loop. You cross the dyked and forested part of the reserve. From February to October, the Tourist Office offers guided tours with a naturalist guide. To know the detailed program, consult the heading Agenda. Go to the Prés Salés nature reserve and cross this space with its different landscapes (reservoirs, forest, salt meadow, dunes...). The footbridge that blends into the landscape allows you to cross the canal of the ponds and to access the part that the locals call the "desert". Get ready to discover Arcachon Bay (known locally as the Bassin d’Arcachon), a lagune that opens out onto the ocean, making a sort of inland sea. Oyster farming, fishing and sailing are the bay’s main activities. In the centre lies ‘the Isle of Birds’ and its huts built on stilts.

Built between 1868 and 1878, this church contains many curiosities. Composed of hard stones from St-Savinien (Charente-Maritime), its bell tower faces east which is the point of sunrise on September 27th (St Vincent's day). By pushing the oak doors of this religious monument, you will discover the organs installed in 1973. Atypical elements, the clams are actually 2 tridacne shells (shells from the tropics). The stained glass windows were created by the master enameller Raymond Mirande (born in 1932 in Bordeaux). It is to him that we also owe the stained glass windows of the churches of Andernos-les-Bains and St-Emilion.

The site of Quinconces remains one of the few "wild" places of the coast north Basin offering a magnificent panoramic view to discover The Pointe des Quinconces, protected and listed in the picturesque heritage of the Gironde, was the favorite walk of Sarah Bernhardt during his stay in Andernos-les-Bains. You can see the old fish tanks dug in 1840 by David Allègre, known for having built the first steam trawler in the world, "the Turbot", in Arès. Following the coastal path northwards, a wooden bridge allows you to cross the Cirès river to reach the beach of Saint-Brice in Arès.

On the edge of the Bay of Arcachon, Arès was built around its port, the most important of the Bay for centuries. There remains a beautiful 18th century pier, lined with its old cannons, now dedicated to pleasure boating.
