Plazac, remains the country of the croquants (peasants of the south-west of France revolted in the XVIth and XVIIth centuries). Located in the Périgord Noir, near the Barade forest, it was also a place of resistance. During your walk, you will discover many paths, the famous shortcuts, which used to link the farms to each other.

From the full sun of the plateaus, you will pass to the shaded freshness of the paths in undergrowth which go down Plazac located at the foot of a hillside. Do not hesitate to stop on the heights to contemplate the wooded hills with many species: chestnut trees, pines, oaks, firs, walnut trees, junipers ...

This easy loop (blue) proposes to discover St-Léon sur Vézère, a village of Dordogne installed in a cingle of the Vézère in Black Périgord. This village is classified as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" and is well worth a stop to wander through the narrow streets to discover the magnificent 12th century Romanesque church and the many art craftsmen's stalls. The starting point is the camping car area on the banks of the Vézère. You will find a washing point for bicycles, sanitary facilities, restaurants and accommodation as well as an information point to advise you in your choices.

Halfway between Lascaux and Les Eyzies, Saint-Léon is in the heart of the "Valley of Man". Occupied since prehistoric times, as attested by the remains of the Conquil site, Saint-Léon owes its name to one of the first bishops of Périgueux. Located near a Roman road, this village was above all, until the appearance of the railway, a flourishing port on the Vézère, to the point of deserving the name of Port-Léon during the Revolution. From the cemetery chapel at the eastern entrance to the village, the road leads past the Château de Clérans and the Manoir de la Salle to a 12th-century Romanesque church with a roof made of stone, which is the venue for the Périgord Noir music festival Starting point "parking of Saint-Léon-Sur-Vézère".

The church, dating from the 12th century, is first mentioned in 1169. In 1187, Pope Urbain III took under his protection the church of Plazac, included in the domains belonging to the bishop of Périgueux. It was the bishops of Périgueux who built the castle to protect the church and the population.

Benedictine Priory dependent on the Abbey of Sarlat with Gallo-Roman foundations. It is covered with lauzes; pre-Romanesque nave with transept and chevet from the second half of the 11th century. Remains of frescoes from the 12th to 18th centuries. To see the cemetery with chapel of the XIVth, enclosure and enfeus of the XIIIth century (classified M.H).
