Camping La Linotte SAS: The allure of Le Bugue, Dordogne

The Vézère by bike : This bicycle route will link four villages over 22 kilometers by the end of 2023: Les Eyzies, Le Bugue, Limeuil and Saint- Chamassy. Accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, it will unveil different portions of secured cycling itineraries as of this summer.

From the caravan park, you're off on a somewhat strenuous and technical first section. At the end of the trail, you can admire the cliffs of Les Eyzies.

Le Bugue is a town built on the slopes of the Douch valley. It is composed of several hamlets whose names are evocative: Cantegrel (sings cricket), La Genèbre (brooms). From the hillsides, you will have beautiful views of the surroundings.

A pleasant loop that will take you to beautiful viewpoints over the village of Le Bugue and the surrounding countryside.

This easy (green) loop mainly takes in the pretty village of Le Bugue, in the heart of the Vézère valley in Périgord Noir, but also the village of Campagne with its lovely château and gardens, renovated in 2015. The starting point is the motorhome park near the aquarium and Le Bournat. Here you'll find a bike-washing point, sanitary facilities, restaurants and accommodation, as well as a Tourist Office to help you make the right choices.

From Terrasson-Lavilledieu to Limeuil where the Vézère river marries the Dordogne, the river runs through one of the most beautiful regions of the Périgord. This sixth stage will take you from Bugue to Limeuil. The Bugue, located at the confluence of the Vézère and the Douch, has been a place of passage since prehistoric times (Bara Bahau cave). The village developed around a convent founded in 964 and the port used by the masters of forges; Then towards Limeuil, a pronounced difference in altitude will allow you to turn around to enjoy a spectacular view of the valley. There's a great viewpoint, then a stopover in the small village of Audrix near the Gouffre de Proumeyssac, a wooded and somewhat technical route.

Discovered in 1951, it presents three ribbons of large engraved animals, horses, bears, reindeer, aurochs, ibexes, dating back 15,000 years. "Ribambelle" because fresco refers rather to paintings and frieze of small engravings. Bara-Bahau, however, displays neither of these. Engraved on three superimposed levels, the animals diminish in size as one gets closer to the ground, no doubt due to the lack of leeway for the artists, who work standing, sitting or almost lying down. Another curiosity: the essential contours but also the manes, the ganaches and, inside the silhouettes, parallel lines made with the fingers that underline the shapes and volumes, themselves carried by the reliefs of the wall, thus giving life to the drawings.

Its reference stratigraphy shows evidence of a human presence here dating from approximately 50,000 BC. This site is famous for its Neanderthal graves, and engraved and sculpted stones representing the most ancient examples of prehistoric art — towards 30,000 BC — have also been uncovered here.
