Surrounded by ramparts, the 19th century bastide recounts a tumultuous past illustrated by its fortified gates and towers which were used as a prison by the Templars at the beginning of the 14th century and then by French and English soldiers during the Hundred Years War. At the beginning of the 14th century, Philippe Le Bel abolished the Templar order. Some knights of the neighbouring commanderies were then locked up in the bastide. Their prison, the Gate of the Towers, keeps the memory of these years of captivity. The village of Domme, perched on an imposing cliff, is an ancient bastide, registered on the list of the "most beautiful villages of France". The visit of the village allows the discovery of a rich heritage. From the windmill, passing by the 18th century fountains, the milling path leads to the plain of Bord, a vast plateau of 4 km² culminating at 300 meters of altitude. For several centuries, mill workers will, in difficult and dangerous working conditions, extract millstones for the mills of the country and beyond.

Call sign at the pradal car park (outside the bastide). Take the obligatory exit from the car park. Turn left and then right just before the rescue centre. Go down to the crossroads (there is a cross) and go left. Go straight on, you will pass behind the football stadium. Continue for 1.4kms and turn right into the undergrowth (at the village of Ventoulines) You will go down to the place called Reille, and turn left. Go up to the edge plain. Once at the edge of the plain, continue and pass in front of the airfield of Domme Continue for 1.4kms (wide path + road). You will arrive at the top of the Pradal car park.

This route around Vézac will take you between the plain and the hills to discover the natural and landscape riches of this exceptional territory. Along the Dordogne river, you will see the castles of Beynac, Marqueyssac, Fayrac and Les Milandes. You will follow the same paths as the inhabitants of Vézac, along the Trel and Pontou rivers, when they went to the mills. This route allows you to discover the mills of Treil (oil), of l'Evêque in perfect working order (flour) and the mill of Caillou with a passage through the station from where the millstones extracted from Cénac and Domme, reputed to be among the best in France, left for Bordeaux and the whole world.

The imposing gate of the towers beholds strange graffiti. In 1970, Canon Tonnelier attributed them to the Order of the Temple. According to him, 70 Templars were locked up there and engraved the testimony of the end of their history. Since then, many visitors have been able to appreciate them and wonder about the presence of the Templars in Domme. In 2018, during a restoration campaign, a new study of the engravings was commissioned, which states that the theses of Canon Tonnelier cannot be retained that it is probably “…a waiting room, or even a room for idleness…” that “…the aesthetic dimension must not be neglected…” and that “… some graffiti can also be purely free…”. Today everyone is unanimous, these graffiti remain an exceptional ensemble. From now on, the mystery of the graffiti of the Porte des Tours is revived! … But what will you think?

14 km south of Sarlat, overlooking the Dordogne River, Domme is classified " one of the most beautiful villages in France". It is a bastide Town founded in 1281. The village follows the shape of the hilltop bordered by cliffs where it rises . It has a rich medieval and renaissance heritage, such as the house of the Currency Maker (XIIIth century), the ramparts (XIVth century), the monumental door and its misterious graffiti. A homogeneous whole in pretty blond stones. Domme can also be seen from below, in the 17th century market hall, is one of the largest caves with crystallizations in Périgord Noir.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l'assomption of Domme dates from the 17th century. It is built with stones of the old church which was destroyed during the religious wars. It was the famous Huguenot captain Geoffroy de Vivans who destroyed the church when he took the town of Domme in 1589. When Catholic worship was re-established in the area in 1622, the inhabitants used the stones of the old building to rebuild a new one in the same location. The church is an achievement of a master mason of Monpazier. With a single nave and a bell tower wall, the church is dedicated to Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. When rebuilt, the church of was initially surrounded by a cemetery. which was moved in the 18th century to the very end part of the village. "

Vitrac is made up of three charming hamlets: le Port, le Bourg and Montfort.
