Description

The Church of Notre-Dame de l'assomption of Domme dates from the 17th century. It is built with stones of the old church which was destroyed during the religious wars.
It was the famous Huguenot captain Geoffroy de Vivans who destroyed the church when he took the town of Domme in 1589.
When Catholic worship was re-established in the area in 1622, the inhabitants used the stones of the old building to rebuild a new one in the same location.
The church is an achievement of a master mason of Monpazier. With a single nave and a bell tower wall, the church is dedicated to Notre-Dame de l'Assomption.
When rebuilt, the church of was initially surrounded by a cemetery. which was moved in the 18th century to the very end part of the village. "
