The village of Saint-Médard is watered by the Loue and its tributary, the Haute Loue. The Romanesque church of the village has a dome and an altarpiece from the 17th century. Numerous manors and castles dot the countryside and the imposing castle of Excideuil appears from its stature during the walk. The path leads from the banks of the Loue to the climbing site of the "Enchanted Rocks", and to discover 5 mills along this stream.

The Loue is a tributary of the Isle which flows in a valley that can take on the appearance of a gorge. The proposed route allows you to go down to the river either by making a return trip from Ganduras, or by going out on the left bank by the hamlet of Gautherie and enjoying a beautiful view of the hamlet of Essendieras, which is home to a rich history that begins in the center of the village with a Romanesque church with a bell tower-wall, overlooking a square surrounded by stone houses. Going down to the river, a good fountain welcomed the processions coming from the church, to sprinkle themselves and make ablutions. Its virtues were numerous, and it could calm pains or favour a marriage. A little further on, the remains of a Gallic wall dating from 600 or 500 BC appear.

Château d’Hautefort is located 28 km north of Montignac and the Lascaux caves in the Vézère Valley of the Dordogne. This fortress, which once belonged to Bertran de Born, is a blend of medieval defence features with a classical centre castle built between 1630 and 1670. The castle was transformed into a leisure manor in the 17th century, and today it houses a remarkable collection of period furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries. Includes an English-style park and French-style gardens designed by the Count of Choulot in the 19th century along terraces; the garden is now on the register of historic places.

Established in January 2022 in Saint Médard d'Excideuil, Tourenne is an organic farm. Crops are partly grown using animal traction, an ancestral method increasingly used in agriculture for its ecological value. Much less soil compaction than with a tractor, so the soil is more aerated, and investments are lower with simple, precise tools. A laying hen workshop helps us maintain the plots. My husband helps me on the farm on a daily basis. Concerned about my environment and the products we consume, I'd like to share my vegetables with you as the seasons go by. Our small vegetable farm is certified in Organic Agriculture. We produce various vegetables, small fruits and nuts. We raise, in full open air, 30 laying hens that we move on the farm. We transform a part of our production into jams, artisanal syrups, coulis, fruits in syrup, dehydrated products, walnut oil, gazpacho, ... and many other recipes which are created according to the ideas and the availability! The preservation of our soil and of the life which composes it are one of our priorities, that's why we practice a non-mechanized agriculture inspired by the technique of the MSV (Vegetable growing on living soil). From the vegetable garden to your plate! Seasonal fruit and vegetables. Convinced of the need to eat better, and in love with Nature, we wanted to produce good vegetables, while respecting biodiversity. At Potager de la Vergne, we favor natural treatments for the non-intensive production of our seasonal vegetables. Produce is picked up on the day of sale, or the evening before. Sales at the farm on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am to 12pm, and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm, to order.

Fabrice and Sylvie propose you duck preserves, farm poultry and other fresh products. Sale of veal raised under the mother on order. Sales point at the farm open all year round. Present on the fat markets on Thursdays in Excideuil and Saturdays in Thiviers during the winter.

This medieval town has produced the greatest troubadours of the age, including Giraut de Bornelh, admired by Dante, or Bertran de Born, poet-knight, adversary of Richard the Lionheart and the tragic figure of the Divine Comedy. Information leaflets are available at the Tourist Office in Excideuil.

This fortress was built in the eleventh century, and modified during the sixteenth century. With the only double square donjon of the Périgord, it also has been softened by the addition of a Renaissance châtelet. It has known tragic moments (besieged twice by Richard the Lionheart), and wonderful moments having being described in the delicate poetry of Giraut de Bornelh, one of the greatest of the troubadours, according to Dante. Come and feel the last echoes of love and furor in this place emblematic of the Middle Age period in Périgord. The public area is accessible for free all year round: you can stroll freely along the ramparts and in the courtyard, admire the panorama of the Loue valley, and discover art exhibitions from June to October. We fell in love with Excideuil and the café and decided to leave the UK for our new life in France. In the village of Excideuil, near the castle, this hotel and restaurant offers a traditional cooking, and large and quiet rooms. Four Breton friends, from Rennes to be precise, decided to put down their suitcases, knife and shaker cases as well as their billigs in Anlhiac, at the bar restaurant "La Crémaillère". This young and dynamic team from the restaurant and bar business has brought novelty between local products, cuisine ripaille, specialties of Brittany with buckwheat pancakes and wheat pancakes prepared to order as well as elaborate cocktails with multiple colors and flavors. Brimming with imagination and a touch of madness, La Crémaillère has also become playful with its many board games available at any time of the day and evening. The janitor's house is composed of two apartments that can accommodate 4 and 6 people respectively. The Caretaker's House II is a one-bedroom studio for four people. The shared swimming pool is heated from May to September.

The hotel rooms are situated in a side building near the castle. There are 5 rooms which all can accomodate up to 2 people. The rooms are designed for 2 people. All rooms have their own bathroom with toilet and a luxurious massage shower or bath with shower. Each room has a television with approx. 30 channels. Breakfast and dinner upon request.

Essendiéras also welcomes people who like to travel with a caravan or tent. You can enjoy camping on the small but pleasant Campsite 'Bruyère' on the domain, currently with 13 sites all with their own private sanitary. The campgrounds are spacious (approx. 100 – 200 m2), situated on the edge of a lake, also well protected for smaller children. On one side you look out over horse pastures, on the other side over the lake and the valley with the castles. There is a small bridge to the playground island in the lake, which has various play sets. In addition to the customary sanitary facilities, there is electricity and you can also make use of the heated swimming pool a bit further along on the Domain. You can also make use of all other facilities that the Domain has to offer you.

Guichardie is a farm in the Perigord which consists of a gîte (la maison) and a barn (la grange). The gîte has entirely been renovated. You will also find a heated swimming pool which is exclusively at the disposal of the guests of Guichardie. This gîte can accomodate up to 10 people. • 5 bedrooms • 8 single beds and 1 bunk bed • 4 bathrooms This old spacious farm house is adapted to accommodate several families thanks to the numerous bathrooms. The farm and the surrounding terraces offer a magnificent view on the valley and the castles. The modern and luxurious kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, a large gas hob (5 burners), an oven, a microwave, a coffee machine, a electric kettle, a large fridge / freezer, complete dish service, cutlery, pots and pans, tea towels etc. The swimming pool has a child-proof fence and is heated from Mai through to September.

Next to the house of the farm Guichardie you will find a beautiful barn with an extraordinary view over the valley with the castles. In the barn we have developed four separated gites. All the gîtes have a well equipped kitchen, laundry and living on the ground floor with terrace on the south side. They can accomodate up to 8 people. 3/4 bedrooms on the first floor, all suitable for 2 people, 3/4 bathrooms 4/5 toilets All the gîtes have a well equipped kitchen, laundry and living on the ground floor with terrace on the south side. The bedrooms in each gite are on the first floor, the only exception is the Studio gite which has the bedrooms on the ground floor. Every bedroom has its own television and bathroom with toilet, because we also use them for seminars. The main House and the Barn accommodations can use the private swimming pool for the Farm Guichardie.
