Come and take in the sights and exceptional heritage throughout your stay, where each stage has a number of discoveries in store for you: Turenne and its castle, the fortified church of Noailhac, Collonges la Rouge with its castles and turreted houses, Meyssac and its grain market, Curemonte with its three castles, its three churches and its orientation table, Saillac with its church with polychrome tympanum and its oil mill?

The Falaise trail takes you through the village of Turenne, a medieval town with narrow streets where you can admire the attached houses and private mansions from the 15th and 17th centuries. You will walk along the castle and see its imposing remains, its high Caesar tower (13th century) and its Treasury or Clock tower (14th century). They will remind you that Turenne, until the 18th century, was a real state within a state, minted its own money and raised its own troops. Then you will reach the neighbouring causse by walking in a setting of hedged farmland, passing at the foot of the Peyrouse castle (18th century) and reaching the old quarries, the highest point of the hike where you will enjoy the panorama. Finally, as you return to the valley of the Tourmente, you will enjoy the views of the village of Turenne, with its slate roofs.

Among the villages along the route, 4 of them, namely Turenne, Collonges-la-Rouge, Curemonte and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, have been awarded the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" label. Your adventure begins in the medieval village of Turenne. Its castle dominates the plateau and offers a breathtaking panorama from its promontory. A few kilometres away, Collonges-la-Rouge will surprise you with its red sandstone buildings in a green setting. Next, go to Curemonte. Set on a rocky ridge, this castrum imposes its authority with elegance thanks to its towers which proudly dominate the surrounding valleys. Finally, take a refreshing break at the magnificent medieval town of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, situated in a meander of the Dordogne.

On the plateau, the Gallo-Roman road through the village was a principal axis. In the Middle Ages merchants, pilgrims, armies, royals came under a small but historic porch: until 1738 it was a place of toll on the edge of the Kingdom of France and the Vicomte de Turenne, his farm housed a kibbutz in 1933-35. Along the street, Notre Dame chapel, the "Charentais" houses . The ancient path through a furrowed farmland which was a battlefield against the Duke of Lancaster. This first loop returns to the cemetery before going down to the stream of Torment. Troglodyte caves in the valley. The tunnel, a railway track, was the longest in France: more than 2000 m. The fifth deck of the circuit traces the history of the Moulin Deschamps, and time of winemaker from Nazareth to Turenne. Admire the citadel on its promontory before returning to Nazareth.

The only kibbutz that existed in France was set up between 1933 and 1935 in a farm in the village of Jugeals-Nazareth. The Tourmente River rises near Montplaisir at an altitude of 370 metres. After 26 km, it flows into the Dordogne. The Montplaisir tunnel is 2,397 metres long and 100 metres deep, and its construction was problematic because of the many springs along its route. On 10 November 1862 the Brive Capdenac railway line was inaugurated. For several years it was the longest railway tunnel in France. We are in the Second Empire and the post office arrived two years later. At that time the train was used to transport goods, Capdenac being located near Figeac and Decazeville where coal and zinc are found.

Following paths lined with walnut trees, this walk starts in Saillac, a village with a lot of character, with its walnut oil press and the work of the blacksmith. It will then take you to the heights of Ligneyrac where the view extends from Turenne to the Monts d'Auvergne, in the distance behind Meyssac, then to the foot of the château de La Rue, an imposing residence with its four turrets. The walk continues along a small path full of charm, perched on the ridges. A short stop at the village of La Bertine and the arrival is in sight.

La Maison de Renée (non-smoking) is a beautifully restored old farmhouse on the edge of a peaceful hamlet. Turenne does not lack panache with the slender silhouette of its limestone keep, an avalanche of slate roofs and bold turrets. You will be amazed by the richness of the heritage: the church and its gilded wooden altarpiece, the private mansions of the 16th and 17th centuries, to be admired by following the signposted itinerary so as not to miss any of them. Former chapel of a Capuchin convent built in 1643 at the request of the Catholic wife of the 'frondeur' Frédéric-Maurice de Turenne. Beautiful Quercy slate roof. Now a municipal hall, it hosts public and private events (meetings, exhibitions, concerts, etc.). The chapel is only open during the summer months for exhibitions, and on request from the Mairie.
