Camping du Lac de Viam: Nature and Discoveries in Corrèze

Ride your mountain bike around Lake Viam !From the car park, go down by the terrace towards the village hall. The path starts on the left and passes over a dike. Then go back up the road to the intersection with the D979. Then turn right towards Bugeat.Turn right towards Sirieix. Follow this road to the village of Couignoux. In the village, turn left and go up towards Le Monteil. 100 m before the hamlet, fork right. Continue for quite a long time between meadows and woods on the main track.Pass to the right of the Etang de Salemagnières (also called Etang de Mouno) and go back up until you reach a wide crossroads. Then turn to the right to reach the dam. Cross the structure and continue along the track until you find the D160 where you turn right to return to Viam.

This little path provides access to the link between the GR®46 and GR®440, enabling several ecomobility hikes to the stations at Uzerche, Lacelle-Corrèze and Meymac, for example. In Bugeat and Pérols, two short hiking trails complete the tour. This route is proposed by the Comité Régional de Randonnée Pédestre. Departing from a train station or TER bus stop, it allows you to join a walking or hiking itinerary and enjoy an ecomobility outing!

This circuit takes us along an emblematic river of the Massif Central, the Vézère. It rises in the heart of the Longeyroux peat bog and flows into the Dordogne. If the echo of the river is always present, this small fisherman's path offers a different atmosphere throughout the year: freshness of the undergrowth and blueberries in summer, colours of autumn, clear view on the river in winter, meeting with the fishermen in spring..

We are delighted to welcome you for our 1st season at Camping du Lac de Viam in Corrèze. Surrounded by forests, with direct access to the beach, the campsite offers 45 shaded pitches for tents, vans, caravans and motorhomes with electric hook-ups, and we also rent 5 mobile-homes for 4/5 people. The campsite is equipped with a men's sanitary block, a women's sanitary block with WC and showers, a washing-up area and a separate sanitary block for people with reduced mobility with WC, washbasin and shower. A snack bar is open in high season. Swimming is supervised by a lifeguard during the summer months, and there's a children's play area (badminton net, table tennis, swing, etc.). An ideal place for lovers of green tourism. We welcome you to 80 spacious, shaded pitches from 15 April to 15 September. The campsite also has 6 chalets, 12 mobile homes, 14 mini-chalets, 2 Mongolian yurts and 2 natural canvases for hire from March to early October. Situated on the Millevaches plateau, you can discover the lake, the Gallo-Roman remains near the church, the granite crosses, the guerite well...

Built probably in the 12th century, then re-cemented at the end of the 14th century, this remarkable edifice has never been fitted with side chapels. It opens on the west with a beautiful frieze-chapiteau portal and has four bays covered with ogives, the last of which forms the choir with a semicircular chevet. The north wall is completely blind, as is often the case in small rural mountain churches. The church stands out for its harmoniously proportioned silhouette, the quality of its construction, the interest of its interior space, its meticulous sculptural decoration and its polychromy. Essentially Romanesque, with thick walls, narrow openings on the south side, a semicircular chevet - quite rare in Corrèze - and modillions of different profiles under the cornice. Restored in 2013, St Martin's features magnificent contemporary stained glass windows.

Filled in 1946, this dammed lake marks the passage of the Millevaches plateau with its streams snaking through wet peaty hollows towards higher areas where the watercourses come together. It is the first upstream hydroelectric structure on the Vézère.

The physicochemical alteration of the granite has created a disconcerting landscape because it is difficult to read. There are no well-marked valleys or vast plains but a succession of basins and hills; a so-called "honeycombed" landscape". Nor are there any raging mountain streams, as the water, trapped in the wetlands of these basin bottoms, scarcely flows.As a result, from this rocky promontory which culminates at an altitude of 730 m, one can see the Puy Pader, the Puy Niouloux, the Lake, the village of Viam and the Belvedere, as well as the Monceau Dam.Panel no. 6 is located there and contains more information.

The commune boasts a number of beautiful wayside crosses. There is a legend associated with two of them, the oldest probably dating from the 15th century. One is near the former presbytery, the other has been moved to the cemetery. They are said to have been erected by a cart driver who, on a very cold day, managed to cross the frozen ponds, while his dog drowned in them. They have the same construction: long shaft with canted sides, upright and crosspiece with fleur-de-lys ends. The 1st of these crosses bears small figures, including a pilgrim holding his staff (?), and a figure wearing a coat engraved with a cross, perhaps a knight of Malta. The cemetery cross bears a fleur-de-lis motif.

A 'domaniale' forest is, in France, a forest belonging to the State. It is managed by the National Forestry Office (ONF) in accordance with the Forestry Code. They were established in the time of Charlemagne, categorising them as "the first natural areas to be rigorously managed".The forest occupies an area of approximately 1.17 km².

The circuit starts near the Espace 1000 Sources stadium, a training centre that welcomes groups of sports enthusiasts who love the great outdoors. Behind this centre is Alain Mimoun, winner of the Sydney 1956 Olympic Games marathon, who had fine-tuned his preparations in Bugeat.

Monolithic granite sculptures created by artist Fly Freeman in 2001, representing the 3 fundamental forms of sculpture (pyramid, cylinder and parallelepiped).

The establishment was opened in July 2021 by Marty, Esteban and Bastien with the idea of making it a place of life and conviviality with the will to put in the center of the project the local products. The main products are mainly meats (beef, veal, lamb, pork etc?), cooked on a wood fire. The meats are grilled on a "Kamado" type barbecue. Concerts and theme nights are regularly organized.

L'Auberge des bruyères offers authentic local produce, a warm "home from home" atmosphere and generous dishes. Daily menu and, from April, a la carte on slate.

The "Les Voyageurs" restaurant is one of the region's must-visit gastronomic venues, featuring local specialties and, in particular, Limousin beef and veal. 1 "Toque" in the Gault et Millau, one plate in the Michelin guide. the restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday, evenings only and by reservation.

In the centre of the village of Viam, in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches, push open the white gate, go through the pretty enclosed courtyard full of flowers and enter this adorable little house designed to accommodate 4 people. The accommodation is composed on the garden level of a living room with its integrated kitchen (washing machine, dishwasher), a dining area and a relaxation area (TV) facing the old fireplace equipped with an insert for more comfort. Under the roof, 2 charming bedrooms (1 bed 140, 2 beds 90, linen provided) separated by a thick curtain have been installed. The shower room/WC are on the ground floor. This pretty, simple and comfortable house, recently renovated, is located in a hamlet with a second gîte, bringing the total capacity to 14 people. The house is designed for 8 people and is on one level, open onto the countryside and the woods. It is equipped with an independent kitchen (oven, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer), a living room warmed in winter by a fireplace (wood offered, TV, DVD player). Three bedrooms (1 double bed, 2 twin beds, 4 bunk beds) and 2 shower rooms/WC complete this pleasant and functional ensemble.

The vacation village of Le Luc is located in the heart of the Millevaches plateau, on a hill overlooking the Vézère river. Bugeat is surrounded by woods, valleys, rivers and ponds.
