Begin the ascent of Rochefort hill till Sainte-Marie-d'Alvey. The loop is a bit physical and offers a landscape discovery of the various aspects of Val Guiers. Nice panoramic view over the Guiers valley from the reading table of the Chenevières (Sainte-Marie d'Alvey).

A challenging loop connecting the villages of vallon du Truison. A consistant ascent of the small valley by "Les Envers" till Sainte-Marie-d'Alvey, a panoramic ascent on the GR9 till Saint-Maurice's plateau before a descent towards Grésin and then Champagneux. Easy ending on the Viarhôna and paths in the plains of Rhône and along the Guiers river.

A challenging circuit that will lead you on the Banchet mountain and its forest crossing between the Crusille and Banchet passes. An effort rewarded with nice viewpoints along the way. The Banchet pass descent is hard (porterage over 10 m) and quick, then you will go back at the foothills via Rochefort and the Bachelin hill. Nice viewpoints from the Chenevières rest area (Sainte-Marie-d'Alvey), the Crusille and the Banchet passes.

A walk around the water to discover the lake of Romagnieu Enjoy the reflections of the lake water and the open view on the Bugey, the Epine and the Chartreuse. An easy walk accessible to people with reduced mobility thanks to the wide and stabilized surface. For the more athletic, there is a health course with equipment to strengthen your cardio and your musculation along the loop. Please note : access to this walk is not free in summer - entrance to the leisure center. Free access the rest of the year.

This route, starting from Aoste, will take you to the towns of Romagnieu and Chimilin, where you're sure to appreciate the panoramic views of the Bugey, Chat, Épine, and nearby Chartreuse mountains! At the end of your ride, visit the Gallo-Roman museum of Aoste, to know more about the history of this village.

After leaving Aoste, you follow the Bièvre through woodland along a wide, peaceful path. You pass through the village of Saint-Didier d’Aoste and enter the Haut-Rhône French Nature Reserve, where the Rhône meets tributaries like the Bièvre and the Guiers. This wetland area, dotted with small islands, is a refuge for species such as the red kite, the Eurasian beaver, and the great crested newt. You can also spot wild orchids and carnivorous plants like the round-leaved sundew. You continue on the broad path that runs along the Rhône and then the Guiers all the way to Lake Romagnieu, a leisure center that charges a fee in summer and offers a wide range of activities: swimming, pétanque, volleyball, tennis, fishing, bar-restaurant, etc. It is generally possible to walk around the lake free of charge outside summer, when the leisure centre is closed. Between Romagnieu and Aoste, the route follows paths and small roads surrounded by cultivated fields. The Chapel of Pigneux is not far from Saint-Genix-sur-Guiers, a village through which the way of Saint James (Chemin de compostelle) runs. That's why many pilgrims are used to go to the chapel. It is said that this oratory was dedicated to Notre Dame of Pigneux - also called Notre dame du gage - in appreciation of a victory against Saracens. There are several hypotheses about the chapel's origins; although, none of them has been confirmed. Some people think that the construction of the chapel may be linked with the battle against Moors in the 8th century. According to other people, it could be linked with a conflict that opposed Saint-Genix-sur -Guiers to the lord of la Tour-du-Pin in the 13th century. A third hypothesis suggests that religious conflicts in the 16th century might be at the origin of the chapel. It refers to the conflict between Lesdiguières and the troops from Savoie fighting on behalf of marquis of Treffort. The Chapel, falling into ruins in 1792, was restored by Monseigneur le chanoine Blanc, parish priest in Saint-Genix-sur-Guiers. The Chapel of Pigneux was rebuilt and extended in 1875. Actually, no matter the legend you hear about or remember, we can say that this chapel has known a great success that encourages the bishop from Belley to appoint a chaplain in the 16th century. Several chaplains succeeded him until 1788, date of the death of the last chaplain. In 2001, the Chapel of Pigneux was totally renovated.

The natural reserve of the Haut Rhône français extends over 25 km. It is the biggest forest and fluvial reserve of France. Before Lyon and between the south peak of the Bugey and the hills of the Dauphiné, the Rhône filled a lake born from the melting of the quaternary glaciers with its alluviums. The river then deviated from its course during several centuries and created countless "Iônes" arms, before being canalised by dykes and ripraps. You can discover this river through nature outings, pleasure boatings, or canoe and kayak itineraries.
